According to a report in Ma'ariv, Israel's home front command is grappling with the problem of providing gas masks to men with beards, extremely common among ultra-Orthodox Jews. A special mask, which can accommodate a beard, is available but the high cost means it is only distributed to men over 65 or whose beards are for health reasons.

When is a beard EVER for health reasons? You want to not die in a gas attack, shave your damn beard.

People with super curly facial hair can get medical exemptions from shaving due to skin irritation, iirc.

Honestly, I'm jumping for joy at an opportunity to post that picture again.

Basically, a scientist/some scientists in Iran was killed by an Israeli air strike, and the above was the image he posted as a reaction.

Remembered seeing it about two years ago while on lunch at work and thought "fark that guy". The post above brought it all back.

Also, wrong. The Arabic language is Semitic (so, for that matter, is Ancient Assyrian) but the term "anti-semite" was coined in the 19th century by an avowed anti-semite specifically to describe how much he hated Jews. You can't simply redefine words when their meaning becomes inconvenient to you. Sorry.

I'm not the one who redefined the term in the 19th century. "A word means exactly what I want it to mean" was discussed in Alice in Wonderland.

doyner: zedster: The US has a X-band radar sitting in Turkey for detecting rocket launches from Iran, I would have to think it caught whoever fired the rockets in Syria. Why not just release the telemetry showing where the rocket fired from?

Maybe because short-range tactical missiles don't achieve the requisite altitude for detection.  You know, curvature of the earf and shiat.

It's public knowledge where the missiles landed and where they were fired from. It's a chaotic civil war, do you think they're digging trenches? Position tells them almost nothing about who fired them. Even if it was from the presidential palace it could be a false flag.

You have to give Bush credit, at least he pretended the Iraqi war was about defending the US from Iraq/Al Qaeda linked WMD terror.

This war is about Obama setting a 'red line' he has no authority to set or enforce, but now we have to attack or we look bad... oh and Assad is bad... bad!

2013-08-28 02:46:45 PM

simplicimus: I'm a little confused about this as well. Assad is basically Shia, the rebels are Sunni. Now, I don't pay much attention to Israel in general (not antisemitic, I'm just not from there), but who gives Israel the most grief, Shia Hezbollah or Sunni Hamas?

Israel has had a strained but relatively go-along-get-along sort of relationship with the Ultra-Sunni Saudis, as they did with Mubarak in Egypt for nearly 30 years.  Iran and Sunni-(but willing to talk to Iran) groups like Morsi's people?  There isn't quite the established detente they have with old-school Sunni autocrats.  In a chaotic situation, there isn't anyone to have that detente with.

First of all, rich people get their kids out of the draft and second, this isn't about oil. We've occupied Iraq for a decade and what has happened to oil prices? The real reasons are a lot more insidious. They'd like us to think it was just about oil.

This was probably the most important part of the article and the number one reason why the US should never kowtow to Israel demands. They are farking nuts.

The real reason we support Israel is corporate welfare for the US - our govt gives foreign aid to Israel in order to allow them to buy all the cool toys our military contractors make (planes, guns, etc.) The US taxpayer foots the bill and our elected officials get a kickback in some form or another. They raise the smokescreen of middle-east stability and oil, but this is a distant secondary reason.

This is really robbing Peter (US Taxpayer) to pay Paul (Military Industrial Complex).

I'll just leave this direct quote from BP's website regarding its work with the Chinese National Petroleum Company running the oil fields in Iraq.

BP and the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) are working through a technical service contract (TSC) with Iraq's state-owned South Oil Company (SOC) to increase production from the Rumaila oilfield, near Basra in south Iraq. The contract was signed in November 2009.
The contract has a 20 year lifetime and will aim to increase plateau production to 2.85 million b/d in the second half of the next decade.
BP has previously supported the field's operation through a three year memorandum of understanding to provide technical assistance, which was agreed in 2005. The company has historical knowledge of the field dating back to its discovery in 1953.

Who ever said it was about *cheap* oil? After you've gone to all of the effort of capturing a nation's oil infrastructure, you obviously want to sell that oil for as much as possible. Looking back at the last 10 years, I would have to say "Mission Accomplished".

No, you're not the only person who remembers that.

You're also obviously not the only person who "forgets" that Tatsuma realized his mistake in reacting to partial information and posted a retraction/apology for that picture two posts later in the same thread after reading the linked article, you disingenuous dirtbag.
