I had an e-mail account there for 14 years until I couldn't remember the farking security question I set the account up with.

From the pics, it doesn't look half bad. On my table right now, so when I am on my PC again I'll give it a spin, just to give it a fair shot.

I was going to say it looks kind of busy, then I remembered the old Yahoo look was incredibly busy so this is better.

Is there some major disadvantage to having your email on yahoo? Everybody disses it, but I don't know what the big deal is.

Other than having a Yahoo email and maybe fantasy football, does anybody use those other Yahoo sites?

you haven't by chance seen any of the threads regarding Windows 8 have you?  Or the horrible change when they took away the tab colours here?  On FARK, change is bad, it always is.  No matter if it's incremental or large.  People all of a sudden discover that they are incapable of doing anything differently EVER.

I think it looks pretty damned good.

If I had may way, every site on the Internet would have an option to disable the bright white background (like the one here).

Good going, Yahoo!

Hey now, Vista wasn't all that bad. It was a lot of good ideas implemented poorly, so by the time SP2 rolled round it was pretty good, and Windows 7 put the finishing touches on what Vista started and is a really good OS overall.

Windows 8, on the other hand, is a REALLY bad idea implemented well. Or at least as it can be within the constraints of the terrible idea of bolting a touch interface on top of a desktop OS.

Gonna have to disagree. I couldn't read shiat with that nonsense background behind the text. Transparent overlay, not good. Thought the new boss would knew this coming from designing everything Google.

I've stopped clicking on Fark links to Yahoo articles when on my phone which is 90% of my web surfing. The mobile Yahoo makes you go to a home page and not to the article. Sometimes it's nearly impossible to find whatever the Fark link was supposed to show.

I use Yahoo! as my homepage just because it has news stories on the front page (although most of the time it's worthless junk) and if you ever need a laugh you can go to one of the stories and read the comments from the "fark Oblamer socialist mooslim" crowd. There are probably other sites I could use for the same purpose, but I am a creature of habit, and since it's been my main email since college, I can see new emails quickly as well.

I was going to say something about how it's damn near impossible to get news and information without someone trying to entertain you and make you go, "ooooh" as a means to cram ads down your throat. But, I just saw a nice cloud floating by so I think I'll just go outside and yell at it.

ditto.
Home page with selected news topics and e-mail. I  ADP+ heavily on anything Yahoo. Pared it down to nothing.
Yahoo's help pages are joke and have been for 10 years.

Same.

I read the Op/Ed page from Yahoo news every now and then - it's got a decent cross-section of columnists, although they've dropped several in the past year or two.  Now that they've changed the site format, though, it's almost painful.  All their nifty Javascript breaks my Firefox - the only way I can get the articles to even show up is to open them all in new tabs, or else refresh the page every time I click on a link.

What really pisses me off is that they apparently took away the ability to see the column archives.  They used to have links for each columnist that would list all the articles, but that's gone now.  The front page is all there is, and if you miss a column, too bad.

I'm trying not the be a "They changed it, now it sucks" guy, but come on, Yahoo... when you significantly reduce the usability of your site and make it near-incompatible with one of the major browsers, you really ought to re-evaluate some of those design decisions.

cannotsuggestaname: MaudlinMutantMollusk: People still use Yahoo?

No, it isn't. The ComScore report was for unique visitors, meaning if you read one article on Yahoo! and did 900 searches with Google/YouTube, you count as 1 for each site. If you go by visits, Google has a small (about 300-500% higher) lead.

Gaambit: I'd rather not click through, but what on earth is "Yahoo! omg!"?

Didn't click either, but "omg!" is their gossip/celebrity 'news' subdomain.

And operation "Grand Slam" is what this the big redesign is called?

Shiat... Time to brace myself... I have a couple of really old clients who use yahoo's web mail...  They damn near had a stroke because of the last redesign...  These people really just don't know how to cope with stuff like this.

Flickr is pretty good and I still use it, especially since they give you unlimited storage for pics. I like its version of a slideshow.

Windows Vista wasn't designed to alienate the entire customer base.  You're thinking of Windows 8.

2013-08-28 08:45:04 AM
The new design actually looks much better. I have to use a Yahoo account for an artists group that formed before there was Google Groups.
