Or the publisher is dumping all those copies they bought to get on the best sellers list ......

2013-08-27 07:11:34 PM
I actually lulz'd ...

2013-08-27 08:23:04 PM
Nope, the guilt and the self-loathing are responsible for the discarded books. People with relationships worth saving buy those books.  The rest of us just get "escorts".

It's more like they are so ashamed to read the book that they book a hotel room, so no one sees them.

cgraves67: It's more like they are so ashamed to read the book that they book a hotel room, so no one sees them.

Why don't they just stay home and read it?

UNLESS ... they traveled so they could buy it in a bookstore far from home so no one would know!

But, wait, why wouldn't they just buy an electronic copy? Then NO ONE would know.

EXCEPT Barnes & Noble or Amazon or whoever said fictional person bought it from.

Boy ... this vexes me.

If I came into a room and saw that book sitting on the bed, I would ask for a different room.

Probably because it's the most discarded book and no one else keeps a tally at their places.  I'm sure people keep Freed with them because they are into public humiliation.

Considering how many '50 Shades of slut' women I've met, it's more like bored divorcées trying to figure out how to hook a new man after 'hitting the wall' with looks.

Not kinky, bored.  People who are kinky don't need to read that kind of stuff, and the bored girls like to pretend.

They buy a copy to read on the plane or the beach and pitch it after they realize what they've bought.

I've been surprised that I have yet to see copies turn up at the local thrift shops.

The Great Gatsby STILL representing. Can't believe that made the bottom of the list, even with the movie buzz.

That's my guess, too. I used to buy paperbooks at the airport to read on the flight or the trip before e-books and, if I didn't like them, care to finish them, or lug them back home, I left them in the hotel room.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe at Travelodge. MILFs with libidos on fire enjoying an afternoon delight. I watched C-cups covered with body glitter in the dark near the tan Kate Hauser. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain...

Time to fap.

Sorry, that was me. I had a bad experience at a Travelodge once, and I want everyone else to have one, too.

That crossed my mind, but I could have built a garden shed out of all the Twilight books I've seen in the last five years.

Maybe they're "trading up" to 50 Shades.

I bought this book yesterday. For twenty cents at a thrift store to give as a gag (ha) gift for a 50th bday party.

Be sure to leave the thrift store tag on it and dog-ear a bunch of pages for added effect.  ;-)

Or, it's a popular book, so statistically more of them will be left behind than, say, Cruel Shoes by Steve Martin.

Someone should write "256 Shades of Grey" about an out-of-work graphic designer that takes up doing webcam shows for money and attention.

Women are funny.
Watching S&M: Too crass and weird
Reading a poorly written book with S&M: Yes please!

Or maybe they're deluded that people don't realize why they're reading it?

I am astonished that apparently there are so many "new" books about young women getting naughty with billionaires. (Oh, but the women are not getting moist because of the money, no, the men are just obscenely rich so the women can show how utterly unimpressed they are by all those billion dollars.) Publishers seem to be even more out of ideas than Hollywood.
