1) Sample blood from borrowed pandas
2) Clone pandas

Although a clause to borrow the pandas may state that cloning is not an option.
Anyone work at a zoo that has borrowed pandas?  Why aren't we cloning them?

2013-08-27 05:21:44 PM
I knew it because of the panda exhibit in California, when they first came to the zoo it was part of the story about them. And China can enforce it by not allowing any of their pandas out unless that policy is agreed to. They take panda conservation seriously so I haven't seen any org really biatch about it. They also approve all the names, which is why all pandas have Chinese names.

The same thing applies to Chinese people, including those from Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Except, Subby, the article doesn't say all pandas are owned by China.

The article says that China gave away Pandas until 1984 - everything afterwards was loaned out.

If any of those pandas pre-84 are still alive or somehow procreated.... then NO, China doesn't own all Pandas.

Well?

Except had you READ to the END of the article (it wasn't that long, really) you'd see the part where all pandas born before 1984 are dead.

DEAD.

Well.. looks like pandas in captivity have a 35 year lifespan.. so, it's possible those ones are still alive if they were really young when they were given away...

It's nice that China makes one exception to their rule of killing off every animal on the planet. Can we start giving their medicine men Viagra and just tell them it's rhino horn or tiger penis or whatever?

You need a panda to host the cloned embryos.
