(Tech Dirt)   Hey, you know what would be hilarious? If we took pictures of our fraternity's members selling cocaine on campus, then uploaded those pictures to our Facebook page   (techdirt.com) divider line 160

Police work is going to be so easy in the future.

No one said you needed to be smart to go to college

Was the Florida tag on vacation?

They're going to select police from a different pool than the ones these guys swim in?

Someone dosed it with G.  It's being raped in a back room.

Words cannot describe the harshness of this facepalm.

When I was president of my fraternity we managed to have fun and do crazy and probably ill-advised stuff all the time.  Yet we still managed to give the appearance of having our act together.  I don't know why that is such a difficult balance to achieve.  I'm not that talented a manager and my brothers weren't amenable to being managed.  But somehow we still pulled it off.

Seriously. Not only did they accept me, but they gave me a degree.

I'm really not surprised it was Pikes.  between them and TKE, they cause a lot of trouble on a lot of campuses.

The biggest problem I see working closely with college students is you always get some that want to test the waters on what they can get away with.  Then act all shocked when they get caught.  In my experience, they are the exception, not the rule, but they tend to get the most attention.  Unfortunately, we don't tend to make a big deal about the chapter that raised $10K for Relay, but everyone knows about the chapter that got in trouble for hazing.

Probably same gene pool, maybe just the ones that came out of this ok legally speaking.

\Are you really assuming they select smart police?

well, the Greeks doing all the positive things just need to keep C*nt Punting whoever they have to to get a little positive press.

Those bros aren't going to pay for themselves. You gotta earn some income if you want to buy more bros.

2013-08-27 12:42:00 PM
My experience with greeks in college was quite different.  I went to a small college, and a sizable fraction of the students were associated with greek life.  There were a couple of fraternities and sororities that fit their respective stereotypes, but most really didn't.

2013-08-27 12:42:57 PM
Can I throw something out here.

If you see a girl getting naked, enjoy the moment, you don't have to take a picture of it.  Respect people's privacy and she was getting naked for the party, not the f**king internet.  Keep things cool, respect people and don't be a douche.

And the next person that whips out a camera during a bong hit, or something else illegal, maybe more needs special treatment.  Maybe as a start get the picture deleted with a stern warning, maybe the camera smashed or physical violence if necessary.  We need to make this country more civil, by brute force if necessary.

\Yes, I realize that is slightly ironic.

All of you Farkers are hating on a tradition you know nothing about, you all must have been pencil-necked pizza-faced geeks in the Chess Club, fraternity brothers get access to more top-shelf pussy than you could shake a stick at, and the relationships you make in the Brotherhood will last you a lifetime.

Rhodes scholars, I'm sure.

They're just ahead of their time.  In a few years we'll look back on this the way we look at "evil" people who sold hooch during prohibition.  Big deal.  People use drugs because they enjoy them.  People sell drugs because people want them.

I seriously doubt anyone's ever accused these guys of looking at the world through Rhodes-Scholared glasses.

I went from the Techdirt article to its source which as this strange comment in it: Pi Kappa Alpha's national organization sent Riptide a statement: "The International Fraternity had no previous knowledge of this Facebook group and was informed of its existence on Tuesday, August 20, 2013. The International Fraternity has been assured of the chapter's full compliance with the temporary suspension and subsequent investigation."

So was the fraternity unofficial before that point, or did they come into existence last week and have already been suspended by the national organization for dealing coke in less than a week?

2013-08-27 12:49:03 PM
Not what I expect "Greek Life" to be.

2013-08-27 12:50:03 PM
Nevermind.  can't read.  it's only the FB group that was unknown, not the chapter itself.

2013-08-27 12:51:06 PM
Nearly 30 in a no one has mentioned how gay they are to be in a frat?

I'm shocked, shocked!

2013-08-27 12:51:18 PM
It wouldn't have been so bad had they not violated Facebook's terms of service.

That's when things crossed the line.

2013-08-27 12:51:35 PM
Ladies and gentlemen, I'll be brief. The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules, or took a few liberties with our female party guests - we did.

But you can't hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Farkers - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!

I don't think they're evil for using or selling drugs. I do think they're idiots for putting pictures of either on Facebook, at least while it's still illegal in Florida.

Is it really that hard to understand?  A "Facebook group" is a feature of Facebook, not a bunch of guys in a house with letters nailed on the side.

You queers are just jealous that you could never get a bid.  Living in a fraternity is worth it to those who have what it takes to get a bid.   You make bros for life, you the best time, and we get top-shelf pussy every night.  My Dad owns a dealership.

If, during Prohibition, the owner of a speakeasy had taken a picture of himself selling booze, posted that picture on a public bulletin board, and labelled it with his real name and a short autobiography, we would still be laughing about how farking stupid he was today.

Have a bunch of guys living in the same smaller space dealing with each other on a daily basis and trying to prove their level of testosterone things may start bordering on the slightly gayish behavior that would never pass in normal life. Until it involves kissing, ritual spanking, dick sucking or wacking off another guy it is straight.

As a veteran of Burning Man, and a volunteer enforcer of the "No camera Zone" policy at another event's Naked Slip and Slide  I approve this message.   Boobies are a privilege, not a right, and they will go away altogether if non-asshats don't do something about making sure those who chose to display them don;t suffer for that choice at the hands of asshats...  Smashing the Camera isn't necessary...memory cards are cheap.  Just take the camera away, delete the offending image, and confiscate the memory card for the duration of the night

lol, this is from the landing page for FIU:

"Florida International University is a vibrant, student-centered public research university, ideally located in Miami, that is worlds ahead in its commitment to learning, research, entrepreneurship, innovation, and creativity so that our graduates are prepared to succeed in a global market."

worlds ahead?  I'm guessing they don't have an English department
