The Bills will be suiting up the ninth caller when you hear the phrase-that-pays near the top of the hour.

Someone in another thread brought it up, and I agree: I'm surprised the Bills haven't made a play for Matt Hasselbeck.  He's showing his age, but if you want a guy who understands the basic offense and thrives in a solid running game, he's your man.  When Hass gets hot, he's damn nigh unstoppable.

I brought it up (or at least was one of the people to bring it up) but I don't think Hasselbeck will leave the colts. And the colts would be dumb to let him go, he might actually be able to impart some wisdom on Luck. Or at the very least won't be an absolute disaster should Luck get hurt.

That's kinda what I was thinking. Hell, he's been in Beefalo for a few years and should know the offense.

As a Bills fan, I did think that things were humming along a little bit too smoothly this preseason.

And theeeeennnnn...

Starting QB hurt
Backup QB hurt
Sign a no-name and a first round bust for "competition"
3 string undrafted QB to start against historically the best team in the division.

1st round CB from last year out 8 weeks exposing a pathetic lack of depth at position
1st string RB injured in game 3

Time to break out the old faithful mantra of the Bills fan "at least theres tailgating"

2013-08-27 12:23:53 PM
Spiller didn't get seriously injured in the game, he got spiked and was back taking snaps later. Only issue is how mentally he'll be after his step grandfather went on a shooting spree.

Tebow will be kept around to take game 4 snaps

At most one series of Brady  then Mallet until it's "Sanchez time" which is when you avoid getting a useful QB hurt during sloppy/random scrub football

Honestly I'm treating their first game as a fifth preseason game at this point. Something to knock the rust off, not expect anything amazing and hope that Manuel recovers well.

Yeah, this here.  If Manuel's not ready for week 1, hopefully he's back for week 2.  So they start 0-1.  Figure they'd lose the game anyway no matter who's at QB, since it's the Bills.  Versus the Patriots.

Here's an update on Manuel's progress.  He still hasn't been ruled out.

Fins will have a winning record. Their D is better. Their offense is better and they were 7-9 last season. They lost 2 games due to their *former* kicker missing 30-40yard kicks. Tannehill is a year older and has three good receivers, 1 who is a pro-bowler. They stole Clabo and Grimes from the Falcons to shore up O-Line and secondary.

Also, fark all you mouth-breathing, chowder-head, annoying pats fans. Go cheat somewhere else. Dolphins are gonna sweep you this year.

I'm not buying it. Miami has a second year QB and they dumped everyone a young QB needs to take pressure off of him: LG, RB, and TE. I expect the Brandon Marshall thing all over again. Sure you have a legitimate threat at WR, but if the QB is playing scared he'll never get the ball.

Wow, intelligent commentary.

If Jonathan Martin (second year LT) Plays average, they will be fine. The rest of the line is very good. Jake Long was always injured. Reggie couldn't finish a season either. Fasano was expendable. Keller injury was big, but not a season killer. Getting Wallace AND Brandon Gibson takes a ton of pressure off Tannehill. Remember, last year the dolphins had ZERO receivers, an injured LT and Tannehill still played reasonably well for a rookie. Everyone in the entire league and elsewhere predicted 2-4 wins. If the consensus this year is 500., I'm happy.

i doubt Marrone wants to start the season this way, you don't really get anything out of putting an UDFA rookie QB under center week 1 vs. the patriots... it makes good players look bad and bad players with potential look awful, not to mention the revolving door of QB position reminds me of Arizona, Houston, Jets, Raiders, the Colts that one year they almost went 0-16, etc. signs of bad management

Stating the obvious. Which is why I'd be happy if they went 8 - 8 this year. Any year.

Even Buffalo gets a win against the Brady era Pats sometimes but I would be very surprised to see Miami sweep the Pats this year.

Miami has a lot of good pieces, providing Tannehill can improve that TD-Int ratio, but I think the Pats will be very good this year.
Gronk and Amendola have worrisome injury histories but I think the offense will still be very good even without them.
I think the defense might finally have accumulated enough young talent to grow into a good unit as well.
It's been a long time since the Patriots had the sort of talent that made Belichick a "defensive genius" but this unit has a lot of good and still improving players and I expect it to be the most talented group the Patriots have had since the 03/04 bunch got old

Injuries are always a wild card of course.
Wilfork and Kelly are relatively old and there isn't much behind them at defensive tackle so that could be a problem.

I'm really not sure why we got rid of Ryan Fitzpatrick. He's been better than (see list), a fairly tolerable QB that had me hoping for a little stability at the position. Is he Jim Kelly? Hell no. But he wasn't JaMarcus Doofball. Or JP Losman. Or ... I'd better stop now.

When the GM is recorded on the phone calling him a glorified backup while trying to trade him...not a good working environment.

I figured Tuel was at least good in college.  Wow this is hilarious:

With a 4-22 record at Washington State, Buffalo Bills rookie Jeff Tuel has taken an unlikely path to starting at quarterback in the NFL. Mike Leach, his college coach, said Monday in a radio interview to count him among those who will be interested to see how Tuel performs as a pro.

Bills coach Doug Marrone said Monday that he plans on starting the undrafted Tuel at quarterback in the regular-season opener, when Buffalo hosts the New England Patriots.

"He's never really won any games," Leach said in an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio. "His entire college career and maybe his high school career as well, he's never really gotten into a rhythm, between injuries and just being moved around a bit, with new coaches."

Leinart would have to play a few snaps for that to even be a factor. They are set to play Tuel because he's the only active qb on their roster who has actually played in their offense. If Leinart or Thad Lewis look amazing or Manuel looks to be able to play, Tuel will go back to being what he was before this. Another WSU failure.

Nah, the Bills spend plenty of money on other team's free agents. It's just never the right combination of players/coaches, and they let a lot of their own talent walk.

You can always tell a cougar because they celebrate the smallest victories.
