No matter how large his frame, there goes a small man.  We are currently dog sitting a Yorkie/Chihuahua mix that huffs and bluffs and yaps at every noise or activity in the house.  He has a name, but I am going to call him Limbaugh from now on.  Then I'm going to contact Cumulus about a radio spot.

"There will not be any changes," Limbaugh told listeners on Friday. The only exception is that he is leaving WABC in New York City for WOR.

Um, that's a pretty big change.

No matter how much money Limbaugh gets, I will be happier, better looking, in better shape, and better hung than he.

So Cumulus is re-negotiating at a far lower salary; Limbaugh was negotiating (begging) at a position of great weakness.  And/or the Koches or some other moneybags is willing to pay Cumulus to put Limbaugh on the air.

And this is way Rush needed Obama to win the election. Can you imagine the hit his ratings would have taken under McCain or Romney? This could be his last contract so he needed it to be a big one. All his stories that hurt the Republican party image are all worth it now.

Not with a bang, but with a whimper.

He could have invented Mudballing -- mixing together crushed Oxy and un-rehydrated Jell-O Chocolate Pudding -- and gone out under a pile of succulent Santo Domingo boy prostitutes, but he had to hang on long past the sell-by date.

The next step will be an internet-only show, then "all right, my friend, ten dollars, but you have to PROMISE not to Bill Clinton all over my sweatshirt."

He is a selfish jackass only thinking of himself. Regardless of the shiat he pushes on air, I would not be shocked at all if it turns out he votes for democrats all the time.

Not obscure. I knew the reference... I was just thinking it could have been tweaked a little and people would have still understood it.  But I'm just picking nits, really.

Quimby: What is your question?

Huck And Molly Ziegler: How so? I'm ignorant regarding NYC radio market.

I know very little about it as well, but according to twitter (which of course is never wrong), WOR is one of the worst rated stations in NYC, with a rating of 1.1 (whatever that means). I assume that's much worse than WABC.

FTA: Rush Limbaugh has signed a new three-year deal with Cumulus, he revealed Friday.

Hear that, Rush?  That's the sound of a thousand old people muttering into their oxygen masks "Yaaaaaaay!" while the sounds of their hoverounds recharging and their oxygen support systems doing a Darth Varder intake/outtake hiss can be heard in the background.

I don't remember that. I remember it being yet another example of blatant idiocy that was supported by his listeners, but popular thinking? Maybe a couple of wishful people, but who actually believed someone who makes his living being a hateful idiot was going to get fired for being a hateful idiot?

What I DID notice was not proclamations about how this contract was bigger than the last, biggest in radio, etc. Extremely muted.

Actually, it kind of was the beginning of the end.  This diminished contract is simply the latest step into obscurity.

There was a period there where sponsors were dropping out and a LOT of people here and elsewhere were singing a tune of impending doom.

You know what is missing from all of the stories on this contract extension, how much money Rush is getting.

If Rush is getting much less than he did before he spent three days calling a law student a whore is his career going as strong?

Hey maybe Rush is paying to stay on the radio.

[citation needed] on anyone thinking he'd go this soon.

We all knew it would take years for him to fade into obscurity - he has too far to fall from, and still has a dedicated listener base. But if he can't monetize those listeners (and he is still losing major sponsors at a steady trickle), then stations will gradually decide that there are more profitable ways to use that time slot.

He'll still definitely be around to derp about the 2016 election, but I'll go ahead and predict that by 2020 he'll be on a fraction of the stations his now, and by '24 he'll be on Sirius XM. Or The Blaze - assuming that's even still around by then.

That said, let's be clear - he's largely gonna be replaced by other right-wing talkers, and sports to a lesser extent. There's still going to be a huge market for right-wing derp on the AM dial at least through '24, it'll just be filled by people who know how to sate the partisan bloodlust of their listeners without being a stench in the nostrils of advertisers.
