So if I've got this right, the EPA is responsible for single moms being unemployed?

This would be the EPA as in the Ejaculation Protection Appliance, then?

I wonder if this guy is pro life?

2013-08-26 01:58:16 PM
What are the odds that this guy's mother used whatever government assistance was available to her while raising him?

2013-08-26 01:59:37 PM
It is clear to me that, like the Voting Rights Act and widespread vaccine use, we as Americans have forgotten why things were put in place so many years ago.  Yeah, yeah... what have EPA or OSHA regulations done for me LATELY?

We actually tried to do society without those things, and we got smogged-in cities, Love Canal, a great lake set ablaze, superfund sites, and the like.  We know what will happen already, because it all did happen before.

Christie has promised to stump for this guy, but that will harm his overall chances in re: Presidency.  He will be publicly attaching his name to the kind of stupidity and nonsense that so defines the current GOP.

Down with poor people, down with clean air/water regulations, bootstrap yourself into prosperity in today's economic reality as a single parent.

That certainly can't come back to harm someone who wants to appeal to 51% of the electorate.

This guy is running for a national AFP job, pure and simple.

He says that he endorses Lonegan and that he will stump for him, but really, he doesn't like the guy at all and he's only saying it for party unity reasons. Lonegan was his Republican rival for the Governorship when he ran in 2008.

Do you? Because I don't think you do. I think you, like me, know for certain that he is.

Ah.  I fell for political doublespeak.  :<

That said if he does get pressured into stumping for the guy for realisies, it's bad news...for Chris2tie.

Asked how he would help single mothers balance the demands of family and work, Lonegan advocated for "cutting the size of government across the board, freeing up businesses and cutting regulation."

serious question: are these people robots?

2013-08-26 03:03:45 PM
Ok...let's say mom does get a job. Who's watching the kids? And who's paying for that child care?

Because as a newly divorced impoverished single mom back in the day, CHILD CARE was my biggest hurdle. It took me 10+ years to work off the system simply because I had no where safe I could put my kids while trying to work or go to school, let alone both. That only resolved itself when they got old enough to stay home alone.

I know the stupid burns, but I didn't know it could have such devastating literal effects.

They don't need a job. They need a husband.

2013-08-26 03:20:42 PM
He specifically proposed sunsetting regulations for the Environmental Protection Agency and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, so that lawmakers could review their impact.

Which will help single mothers, how, exactly?

No, but they've all been in the echo chamber so long they don't even recognize the nonsequitur responses they give.

He missed tax cuts for the rich, too. Slipping.

I too detest widowed army wives.

2013-08-26 03:22:16 PM
I'm sure New Jersey senate candidate Steven Lonergan has positions for single mothers, and them being able to rely on SNAP and other benefits means there's not as many single mothers out there accepting twenties (forty to swallow) for those positions.

2013-08-26 03:23:05 PM
FlashHarry: serious question: are these people robots?

Yes, but they're designed with special paradox protection, so good luck getting them to blow a circuit on stage.

Hack Patooey: Which will help single mothers, how, exactly?

By killing them either through work site accidents or environmental pollutants.  Not a single mother anymore, are they?

At least it's not his brother Jake.

And during that time when your mother was providing for you by working, how did her take-home pay compare to that of someone doing the same job today?  How did her pay compare to that of the president of her company, and how would those two positions measure up today?  For that matter, how much buying power did minimum wage at that time provide when compared to minimum wage today?

I trust he'll be honest in comparing apples to apples, right?

If only we could get those kids back to work in the factories and get rid of those pesky safety regulations we could party like it's 1899.

2013-08-26 03:27:49 PM
So is he volunteering to babysit while all those mothers spend time looking for a job and/or working at one?

By cutting the size of government across the board, freeing up businesses, and cutting regulation.

You can keep asking questions, but that's going to be the answer about half the time. The other half will be character attacks against Cory Booker, Obama, or both.

Fart_Machine: If only we could get those kids back to work in the factories and get rid of those pesky safety regulations we could party like it's 1899.

Those little fingers are excellent for maintaining looms, until they're lopped off, or course. But with a lack of available birth control and comprehensive sex ed, I guess we don't need to worry about the labor pool. To the factories!

Conservatives' burning hatred for the people who already have no power in our society and limited ways to help themselves out of poverty is both stunning and confusing. Guaranteed these Dickensian GOPers couldn't last one week without resorting to crime or uncontrollable crying if they had to switch places with one of these poors that they hate so much. Hell, even though they're living lives of privilege now, these GOPers whine non farking stop about how oppressed they are.

adding that free market policies and less government will free "individuals to achieve their best potential."

No wonder this guy is being crushed by 14 points in the polls... he's still regurgitating tired right-wing talking points.

Probably collected death benefits through SSI for her and the kids.

Simple.  Eliminate all child labor laws and they can come work the drive thru with Mom.  Problem solved!

Yeah, he makes it sound like these mom's can just go off and get a job that pays 30K/yr.

It's possible to not only be working a full-time job, but also still collect SNAP because your income is so low.

But let's go ahead and make things harder on people for which a minimum wage job can't even cover the necessities. That'll show them!

Maybe the RINOs... the True Patriots want to pour the acid as soon as the kids clear the birth canal completely (they're precious angels of sacred wonder up until they completely clear the woman's body).

WHY BY alleviating her maternal burdens and elevating her economic circumstances in a single fell swoop of course!   By allowing her brood to be productively employed turning the wheels of American industry instead of sinfully idling away thier days in the class-room like some popin-jay or mocking-bird, aping the skills and refinements of their social betters!

What a glorious day it'll be once that meddlesome nest of socialists and Wobblies that calls itself  the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been safely dealth with!  Once again   every man will breathe the air of freedom and decide for HIMSELF how great a risk of losing a toe or mangling an arm to undertake in exchange for his day wages.  And when we have torn off the opressive yoke of "safe" workplaces   we can begin to storm the barricades that prevent our precious children from EARNING thier daily bread, and put an end to those would-be commisars who have the Temerity, the sheer unchecked CHEEK, to tell a man  the "minimum Wage"  his idle  and shiftless laborers must be paid!

Then, oh only then, my good fellow will you see the true and glorious rennaisance of American industry that cannot HELP bu be the rising tide that lifts all boats..be they owned by billionaires or mere millionaires!

When you notice that each of them says pretty much the same thing, it can only mean they are robots, or have been replaced by the pods.

If they can't get jobs at a bootstrap factory, they should build one brick by brick.  Because if you aren't a CEO, you just aren't trying hard enough.

Kinda like the GOP unions busting...let's get rid of all these unions and just let corporations operate on the honor principle.  Since it worked so well before.

And before I get bashed over this statement, I'll say that I played a gig at a union gathering recently, and a guy got up and spoke on what the average person's work environment was like before unionization.  It was rather eye opening.  Not to say I approve of everything unions do (hell, I don't approve of everything *any* group does), but had my brother's wife had a union she may not have been fired after 20yrs of teaching because the new principal "didn't like her".

Oh his sttaement is perfectly factually correct.  I guaranteee you his mom never recieved snap....but only because it wasn;t CALLED that till midway through the Bush administration.   Now food stamps and Supplemental Security Income (welfare)? I'd lay money she needed that if she truly was  a "single Mom" and not "a widow with a fat insurance check and survivor benefits"
