There is no point. We are all doomed as a species.

DOOMED.

Ever seen someone with a lot of skin tags? Looks like they are budding new versions of themselves.

Honest Bender: Genetic variation?

Yeah, this.  Leads to faster adaptation and stronger biology.

Of course, it can and often does go wrong, resulting in unwanted or flat-out dangerous traits being passed on/generated.  But hey, nothing's perfect.

With subby's wife? Not much point at all. Talk about a dead fish.

Every mutation is a detriment until it's not.

Honest Bender: Genetic variation?

In so many words.

The interesting thing about the mystery of sexual reproduction is that it actually came around fairly early in the evolution of multi-cellular life. It is quite possibly a billion years old or more, and it was such a runaway success story that nearly all complex life today reproduces sexually.

But why was sex invented in the first place? Probably because of microorganisms. Asexual reproduction - either through budding, or binary fission, or spores, or fragmentation or whatever - produces evolutionarily inefficient clones, and a genetically congruent population is much more susceptible to decimation from viruses and bacteria. That probably happened a lot in early life.

If life was going to get out of the swamp and be anything other than algae, it would have to become much more resistant to parasites. It solved this issue through sexual reproduction, by having different organisms come together and share their genes to produce new organisms, increasing genetic diversity. These separate organisms would all be hermaphrodites originally, swapping each other's genetic information like trading cards. Specialization into different genders would not come until later.

Once life started reproducing sexually, mutations increased exponentially. Life exploded with diversity and creativity from then on.

Clearly the point of sex is for the male's semen to provide a slippery path for the angel to get up in there and create life.

This question is practically the definition of "You're doing it wrong".
