You know the best bit? the fat coont of a police officer standing there with his morning coffee in a huge cup telling homeless people to starve. And not seeing the slightest bit of shame in it.

On the bright side we have religious people in NC that aren't all "fark the poor". Even this atheist can get behind feeding poor people coffee and biscuits.

Now, I know that I don't have it in me to be a cop (not just because I am out of shape because those photos clearly show that wouldn't hold me back), but I don't think any job would ever allow me to suspend my humanity to stand, with hot coffee IN MY HAND and tell 100 homeless and hungry people they couldn't have the hot coffee and food that is available to them.

I would have taken my chances and handed it out.

Copper Spork: How is this any different from banning people from feeding rats and seagulls? It's a public health issue, and they are quite right to ban unsanitary behaviour.

0/10, way too obvious

browser_snake: Moral outrage test:

You can't give those sausage biscuits to the homeless because:
1. There's a city ordinance against doing it in the park - OUTRAGE
2. Sausage biscuits are unhealthy and cause obesity - THIS IS OK
3. The biscuit dough is made from GMO wheat flour - APPLAUSE

1. Don't feed the homeless from my tax dollars.  Taxation is theft.  Let them rely on charities.
2. Don't let the charities feed the homeless.  They're icky and we don't want them around.
3. Let them bootstrap themselves into a job.
4. WHAR JOBS JERB CREATORS OBAMA WHAR?

We might already need a Followup for this one:

According to their Facebook page:  https://www.facebook.com/LoveWinsMinistries and the FB page for the Mayor of Raleigh:  https://www.facebook.com/NancyMcFarlaneForMayor/posts/714623581898165  . . .this decision was NOT made by the Mayor or City Council or in response to any city ordinance that the Mayor knew about, and nobody should be getting arrested for this.

In other words, the city government is saying it wasn't them, and it's looking like an overzealous police officer (or police supervisor who sent the officers out) who was looking at making up his own rules and breaking this up even though there was no explicit law/regulation against it. . .that or because of massive PR backlash the Mayor decided to disavow all knowledge of this plan to shoo out the homeless by ending the feeding, and since there was nothing in writing with her giving the order and it didn't directly violate a city ordinance, somebody at the Raleigh PD is going to be taking the fall for this.

Certainly You Jest: ilikeracecars: I'm not condoning the police behavior, but is there a chance they don't want the homeless congregating in that area waiting for a free meal, or is that a spot in Raleigh where there are already a large amount of homeless?

Moore Square downtown is the most well-known place in Raleigh where homeless people congregate.

I doubt the mayor had a thing to do with it; more likely a Raleigh PD thing.  Though I'm sure it pleases the governor greatly, I doubt he had anything to do with it either.  It's just yet more "I've got mine, so fark you".

Pissing on the poor is practically the national pastime for these oh-so-christian scumbags.

It was Christians feeding the poor, but don't let the facts get in the way of your hate. Feel the hate flow through you!

Troll the PD and Politicians regarding this but being Christian had nothing to do with it, so knock it off.

Copper Spork: Bit'O'Gristle: /You know what? fark that shiat. All the volunteers should have started handing out food and been arrested in mass. What would they do? Call in the state police? The national guard? Just because they were trying to feed a few folk? Any judge would have thrown that shiat out if they had been arrested. What a load of bullshiat.

I wonder how you'd feel if they were handing out ammunition to the poor (which is protected by the constitution) instead of food (which is not).

/Seriously? thats what youre bringing to the table? Facepalm..you can do better than that.

My church has one of the food trucks that you normally associate with construction sites that sells sandwiches, some hot items and soda.  Well, we do just that but we don't sell it, and we go feed homeless and hungry people.  We give away socks and gloves in the winter etc.  We had to get a permit from the very liberal city of Minneapolis to operate there.  We could not state that we are feeding or caring or providing for the "homeless",  had we used that term we would have been denied a permit to operate.  The city doesn't want to acknowledge the homeless and officially the city doesn't refer to those who live under the bridges as homeless. In fact MPLS discourages us from using that most accurate term when the press asks us for reports on our mission.  By the way, we don't preach or teach out there either. We just provide help.

Bendal: Our mayor, Nancy McFarlane, is meeting today with the PD and the homeless assistance groups to find out wtf was going on; she doesn't recall there being an ordinance against feeding the homeless in that park, considering it's been done for months previously with no problems.

It won't be an "ordinance against feeding the homeless in the park"  If any arrests are made it will be for something like not having a permit for park use, or causing a disturbance on public property, or blocking the sidewalk and right of way.

Between things like this, the cops in NYC whining about not being able to keep doing unconstitutional searches, and the one cop whining that he can't patrol his "sector" without a machine gun because the suburbs are a war zone just like Afghanistan, it gets harder to convince myself that cop hate is irrational and childish.
