Bet this is another case of SSRI's gone wild.

log_jammin: Now for the second half of my question, "Do you have any information about them being misused? "

To justify their expanded budgets(including APC's) SWAT teams are taking a bigger roll in things like handling warrants, ect.

So, yeah, don't think you need a swat team to serve a warrant.

Mikey1969: Jesus, they've had these for decades. Un-bunch the panties.

At least since the 80's.  They showed the LAPD using one in Die Hard.

If the cops had a tank why didn't they use it instead of their APC?

I wonder which SSRI he was on?

supayoda: As I have learned on Fark, the police are not a subject one should take with a reasoned middle approach.

To be fair, there are PLENTY of times when the police take the 'shoot first and ask questions later' approach when they shouldn't, and people have died. THIS is not one of those times.

I agree, this always bagging on the cops thing is getting old, I'll call 'em out when they deserve it.

And he would've gotten away with it if it weren't for those Duke boys!

Indeed. LAPD was one of the pioneers in using tanks. Originally they got one for knocking down or towing out the gated entrances of crack houses when doing raids.

Prepare to be rescued!

doglover: violentsalvation: That's not a tank.

Might as well be. What do civilians have that can stop it?

You would be very surprised what some civilians have.

Subby- its simi valley. They use 2 patrols and a k9 unit on routine traffic stops.  3 cars, one driver. What do they usually get out of it ? Nothing.
And, tfa is wrong- Bridle Path is not a horse park- the tract is zoned for horses and there are riding trails along the streets in most of it.

I live near the neighborhood in question. All the cops and firetrucks went past my house. It did seem like there was way to much activity to be a house fire. Front page news in Simi! Sorry for all the loss of life and pain this guy caused to his family.

So, rolling up on scene in an armored vehicle where you could not possibly get hurt is heroic now?
