Library officials called police after an audience member accused the panelists of being complacent in the face of terrorism overseas. The remark led to a burst of outrage from audience members who said the panelists were avoiding the topic.

"WHY AREN'T YOU GRAD STUDENTS STOPPING INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM???"

^^This is what FOX News does to people.

I guess the question is: were these folks equally incensed that Irish folks in Boston and New York were complacent about terrorism throughout the British Isles, and the number of terrorist training camps that sprung up around the globe thanks to donations to the IRA? Who, oddly enough, trained with Muslims and Christians alike. Dollars that went to the IRA went into the hands of Muslim terrorists, and why have so many pale Americans been supporting terrorism overseas for decades? Where is the outrage, there? Why did Americans not threaten to stamp out Catholics AND Protestantism in the face of so much blood and pain? Where were the protests against Catholic Diocese springing up across this fair nation, with their dirty Papism, while so many British citizens--one of our eldest of allies--fell under the gun and to bombs? Why was their "Christ" not pilloried with his bleeding heart message of "peace" while so many died in "His" name?

Or are these questions impolite and impolitic?

74% of the people in US prisons are Christian. It is a safe bet that the significant majority of the 532 people murdered in Chicago in 2012 were killed by Christians. Why are so many Christians criminals?

Why are Christians so intent on murdering people? Why don't Christians do something about this wholesale slaughter?

But but but America is a Christian country!!!

//these people f*ck out kids like it's their job.  I may be moving to another country in 30 years.

Nearly a dozen audience members appeared to side with Figliulo. They often clapped and cheered for one another as they took turns explaining their distrust of Muslims.

They then went home and expressed on Facebook that their opinions received a lot of support, and this proves they will take the White House back in 2016.

Not only are they not incensed about that, they freakin' elect a guy who was funding the IRA to the House of Representatives every 2 years.

It speaks volumes that "moderate" Christians refuse to denounce the actions of the extremists in their midst.

On the one hand, good to see America still takes the idea of religious freedom seriously.

On the other hand, post-9/11, should American Muslims expect any different?

The so-called "moderate" and "mainstream" Christians should be constantly disavowing their murderous extremist brethren.

I can only assume that their silence means tacit approval.

Because you're part of the majority? I always knew there was something going on up North.

All of the people interrupting should have been escorted out by the police. Then sent to their room to think about it.

I feel sorry for those hecklers. They probably never met a Muslim in their life - they learned everything they know about Muslims from 9/11 and the right-wing derposphere. They are brainwashed, pure and simple. It's easy to be angry at them, but it's more correct to be angry at people who distort the truth for ratings.

Yes, American (and non-American, non-extremist)  Muslims should expect not to be discriminated against because of the actions of radicals. Radicals who only have any power because the West's constant destabilization of the region's politics allowed the extremists to take that power. The vocal hatred from certain groups of Christians give extremist Muslims an enemy to point to when recruiting for a Holy war.

Blowing up thousands of innocents in a war for profit, leaving angry relatives in their wake while destabilizing one of the most secular countries in the region didn't hurt recruitment either.

I'm really surprised there hasn't been more ourbursts of people telling these rednecks off.

2013-08-25 10:50:30 PM
That's ok.. cause all those NRA supporting tea partiers don't realize their NRA membership fees are helping to provide guns and training to muslims.

2013-08-25 10:50:33 PM
Meanwhile, out in Kansas, the good folks in the anti-abortion movement asked the Wichita city council to zone an abortion clinic out of existence because their people can't manage to stop shooting at the abortionists.  But heaven forbid that anyone expect Christians in general or even the pro-life movement in particular to denounce that. Nope, let's just scream at some Muslim grad students instead.

I can guarantee that if any of these old teabaggers have ever even stepped a foot out of this country, they were the ones stereo-typically screaming English in the faces of befuddled waiters and anonymous passers-by.

They would have to be pretty insulated. I mean this is suburban Chicagoland. Not too many other places in the Midwest more diverse than that.

But then again, these are probably the same people who avoid going to Chicago at all because it's too dangerous and spend all of their time in Naperville, Schaumburg and Oak Brook.

yeah, but your beliefs are very much in line with conservative republican values....Anton LaVey himself said he cribbed a lot of ideas from Ayn Rand.  Satanists are just Republicans who stopped lying to themselves about what they believe in is all.

i'm a pagan.  entirely different set of gods, different values, and a respect for knowledge and balance in all things.  not something Republicans get really get behind ya know?

That just tells a subset of the American population that we haven't killed enough of them. If we killed all their relatives, there'd be peace in the middle east.

30 years? Who has time for that. I'm looking in the next 5. The American job market solely consists of: "Get an education, work at McDonalds, don't complain about your debt. Shut up." Or if you have a higher education you can get a 10$/hr entry level job where you do the work of 10 people.

I just don't have the money to do it. What would be a good country that would be willing to take foreigners from Murrica? Especially only a high school educated white guy.

I served with a guy who was Muslim. I didn't even know he was Muslim until I had known him for about a year. I just thought he was a nice, somewhat straight laced, kind of guy until we were talking one day and he mentioned making money by pulling CQ on Christmas and Christmas eve. I don't recall what I said, but his response was something about it not being a big deal to him because he was Muslim. Served with him for another year or so and I don't think it ever came up again.
