How do you tell your investors that you failed at raising cockroaches?

If only he had access to some kind of hardy insect that ate garbage, tolerated most conditions, and reproduced rapidly, he could scuttle right back out from under that problem.

I'd also like to say that there are times in life when you need to stop what you are doing and examine the life choices that led you to where you are now.

Are you giving alleyway handjobs for Night Train?  It's time.
Are you repeating things you heard from Rush Limbagh in public? It's time.
Are you about to drop $18,000 on cockroach eggs?  It's time.

//would almost rather give the alleyway handjobs than see what 100kg of cockroach eggs looks like

Wouldn't 1,000,000 cockroaches actually be less than the amount of cockroaches found in a medium sized apartment building in any college town?

Night Train handjobs? Rush Limbaugh anything?

I'd go for the cockroach eggs. Much more sanitary.

So, cockroaches sell for $180/kg in China? Compared to the risk:reward / ROI for tiger penis, rhino horn, etc. raising and selling cockroaches seems like a great business plan.

/ Note to self: check ticket prices to Beijing

I screamed like a little girl and did not talk to my dad for a month

Actually, traditional Chinese medicine uses quite a lot of strange substances.  Quite a bit of it actually works; not necessarily as well as other medicines, but it can be effective.

Like many early medical systems, it uses quite a lot of rationalizations; i.e., this substance helps the liver work better, so it must be strong in the element of Wood (which treats the kidneys).  That may not be quite clear, but it goes something like this - instead of treating the affected organ directly (though that was done as well), you treat the organ before it in the Zang Fu cycle.

...oh gods, I looked it up too.

They have a million farking palmetto bugs running amok in the fields of China.  (Yes, the particular species they're breeding are palmetto bugs, aka "American cockroaches", aka "Waterbugs" (which is a nice way of saying "IT'S A GODDAMN FARKING PALMETTO BUG BUT WE DON'T WANT TO ADMIT WE HAVE ROACHES").

They have A MILLION GODDAMN FARKING PALMETTO BUGS RUNNING AMOK.

WHY someone would have A MILLION GODDAMN FARKING PALMETTO BUGS I DON'T know.   (Even for the few legitimate reasons one would breed roaches for SCIENCE, they tend to use the big ol' Madagascar hissers...which are big enough that they don't quite register as OMFG FARKING GIANT ROACH.)

/why yes, I did have a house that would get the occasional infestation of "waterbugs"--which were actually goddamn farking palmetto bugs/American cockroaches, and the farkers would stink...folks would deny they were ROACHES but I knew better
//and now they're one of the few bugs I do have a legit COMPLEX about
