That's what happens when you send a west coast team to do a southern teams job

I wanted to see California vs. Mexico.  It would be the first time the LLWS Final would be between two cities you could walk to in an hour.

They take baseball seriously in Japan.  At least the LLWS is an actual world series.  MLB should stop calling their championship game a world series until they at least include the JPL.

Yet the southern team didn't make the finals.
Strange that.

Summer is never really "over" for me until I see a group of young boys crying over a game that is televised on an international stage.

Oh really? It's a repeat? You mean, this happened once, and it was reported on in 1967, and then reported on again in 68, 76, 99, 2001, 2003, 2010 and 2012?

This is what I wish the World Baseball Classic was. The champion of 6 Professional Leagues. So Japan, Korea, Mexico, the Caribbean, and MLB and maybe a European league if there is one. Run it like the college world series. Double elimination until down to final 2... then best 2 of 3.

There is. The Czech Republic made a good showing considering that there's no baseball tradition there. Baseball is also popular in Holland.

Choking dogs, Chula Vista. 4-3 lead in the 5th and they end up losing 6-4.

I'm not talking about LL. I'm talking about a professional league.

Unfortunately, the WBC has a timing issue.  For some leagues, the WBC comes at the end of their schedule.  For others, it's an off-season or preseason thing.  If they wanted to really go that route, they would need to synchronize schedules somehow.

Netherlands has professional baseball, it was nice to be able to talk baseball in bars with locals when they saw my Braves hat. Miss that country, too nice to ever be angry.

Yeah, and the Caribbean leagues would never get on board with that since they tend to have a number of MLB players vising in the winter to play for their teams. The winter league teams are pretty much minor league teams regardless so it wouldn't be critical to have them involved initially except for the added excitement.

Still, even to start it'd be fantastic to set it up with the American and National League champions, the Japan Series champion (they have two "leagues", but only 12 teams), and one team from a playoff between Korea and Taiwan's leagues. A true World Series, finally. Eventually, as the SuperLeague gets bigger and more organized, maybe the Caribbean Series (and the member leagues) can shift to the summer, and we add them into the mix.

My favorite part, hands down, is at the end of an elimination game.

You get to see the kids cry.

One time, I saw the pitcher bawling his eyes out on the mound after giving up a huge lead late in the game.

It. Was. Fantastic!

..so.. the Konami Cup winner vs the World Series winner every year? I could get with that.

I always wonder...

How many of these kids go on to have professional careers in baseball, either in the MLB or their own respective leagues? Does anyone have any stats handy on what the success rate is for these kids to follow through on their dreams until adulthood? How many MLB players played in the LLWS?

Adults who watch children play a game on TV need a psychological evaluation.

Why? I just like watching baseball. And I've watched it every year since I was allittle kid. It is a tradition.

How is it a WORLD series if the US plays in every championship? Wouldn't they want to make it fair and have the winning teams from each country play each other then move on to the championship?

2013-08-26 11:24:17 AM
It'd be pretty cool to see the winner of the World Series square off against the winner of the Japanese league.

But all this "it's not  really a World Series because it's in America" stuff is foolish.  Stop it.

Major League Baseball is a) by far the best baseball and b) by far the most international league.  The idea that the World Series winner represents America is ridiculous, and actually more America-centered than calling it the World Series.

Just look at the WBC.  Plenty of countries are competitive, and America's usually not even the best team.  And yet, most of the players from the best Latin teams are from the major leagues.

LLWS is based on region.  Leave it alone.

Its fun to watch the LLWS when the kids have fun.
The Japanese catcher that blocked the run, got the out, and then hit a double had the best day of his little life.

/speaking of fun to watch, Matt Cain hits stuff with his fastball:
