Kill. Me. Now.

I missed seeing Man of Steel at the theater this summer. Was it worth it? I saw conflicting reviews. Affleck doesn't make me want to see any sequels, already.

Affleck would have been a decent Superman.

Bland & boring.

I hope he isn't so wrapped up playing Batman that he doesn't have the time to direct at least a couple more films. Argo, The Town and Gone Baby Gone are great flicks.

In hindsight it was decent. Definitely sets the stage for a good sequel.

Comic fanboys weren't happy with it, but I thought it was very good, especially as an origin story.

Sadly, Christopher Nolan deprived us the chance to see Batman meet the mayor of Gotham as his low-wage Mexican counterpart.

Don't waste your money. Man of Steel is like the "Star Trek: Voyager" of comic book movies: there's a shocking lack of common sense all around, minimal character development, and the destruction that takes place is magically repaired by the end of the movie.

Man of Steel was by far the best Superman movie to date, and a damn fine action sci-fi movie on its own

I don't like crazy loud movies that ram primitive moralistic fables down my throat and that are populated by grumpy tit-faces wearing spandex.
So I'm guessing this doesn't affect me.

Man of Steel was emo Batman translated  to Superman, with a Superman causing thousands of dead people. The only thing they didn't do worse than the other films was that there isn't a dumbass Lex Luthor, which they might fix if the rumors of Bryan Cranston being cast is true.

So will Wayne Enterprises acquire some of the Kryptonian armor/tech so that Batman can develop a suit that can hold its own against Superman?

Not sure if that's a popular idea, but it's one of the few ways Batman could survive a brawl with Superman in the MoS universe.

MoS seems to have introduced a new vulnerability for Supes, the Kryptonian atmosphere. Maybe Batman could whip up a concoction of certain gasses to replicate it.

I'll withhold judgment until I see the farking movie. I'll freeely admit that I thought that Heath Ledger was going to suck as the Joker when I first heard about him being cast in the role. It might be awesome and it might be shiat, but either way they're going to have to work hard to make a worse movie than Batman and Robin.

2013-08-25 06:55:26 PM
I still want to see the audition video that convinced the producers Affleck was the right choice for the part. It's not that I don't see him playing an effective Batman, it's that I've never seen him play an effective action hero in anything. The guy just radiates... blandness, which isn't normally what you'd look for in an actor playing a larger-than-life comic book character. (In Affleck's defense, however, I have to admit I haven't seen any of his recent work which is supposed to be good. I've only seen his earlier genre attempts like Reindeer Games, Phantoms, and Daredevil - or at least as much as I could stand before either turning them off or falling asleep.)

But what really worries me isn't whether he'll pull off the role. It's whether Kevin Smith will try cashing in favors and demand Stan Lee-esque cameos in every one of Affleck's Bat movies.

StoPPeRmobile: Cool another origin movie.

I think it would be hilarious to have a big name comic movie do an origin story that is nothing like the comics. Like having Superman be a Nazi experiment gone wrong or give Batman a spiderman like origin where Bruce Wayne is bitten by a radioactive bat and gets bat super powers. The possibilities for fan boy butthurt would be endless.

Man of Steel was a good movie and just as good as Batman Begins.  Yes, there are holes and things that don't make a lot of sense (and a GOD AWFUL amount of product placement (Did Ma Kent REALLY need to work at Sears?)) but it was a fun and well made movie.

Something I don't get about the Dark Knight movies....are we to believe that Batman only had those adventures?  Meaning he met the Scarecrow, the Joker/Two-Face and Bane?

Or are we to believe that between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight he had 1000 other adventures we just didn't see?  Because stopping one or two bad guys, albeit super-villains, doesn't exactly make him a symbol to the city/world, does it?

So you are looking for a movie about a man in a cape that shoots lasers from his eyes and flies into outer space to be more grounded in reality?

It's implied that in between BB and TDK, Batman has been very busy, since by TDK, most of the major criminals (including most of the money launderers available to the Mob, and most of their drug pushers) have been put behind bars. Both Scarecrow and Lau make references as such.

/seen BB and TDK at least 50 times each

TDKR is on HBO right now, and man it doesn't hold up well at all. The sound engineers should be farking fired. Even Michael Caine struggles. Just a bad movie in a lot of directions.

I enjoyed it quite a bit, particularly Bane. It's not TDK, but I find it very enjoyable. It could be HBO, since I have the Blu-Ray version and I've never noticed any sound issues.

The Incredible Sexual Egg: Heath Ledger

Not a fair comparison. Heath Ledger occasionally played characters different than himself, and played them well.

I personally dislike Af*ck after Argo. It was an insult to Canada and to Ken Taylor. That aside, the guy can act. He was brilliant in The Company Men. I'm sure he'll make a good Batman. I can't see how he could be any worse than Christian Bale and that goofy growly voice he uses. It always sounds like Batman had just run up 14 flights of stairs after smoking a pack of cigarettes. Hated that stupid voice.

Within the context of the Nolan-verse, it's a decent movie. But it's a horrible Batman movie. Batman doesn't quit because someone he loved gets killed/hurt, he gets pissed and loses himself to the monster. He'd throw himself even more fully in the role.

One of the animated Batman films, Batman: Gotham Knight, was released after BB, and is said to take place in that time between the two films. In that movie, he encounters Killer Croc, Deadshot, and Firefly, so I guess you could imply that there were other adventures where he encountered more of his Rogues Gallery. Technically, though, Nolan was not a fan of some characters (Penguin in particular), so you could also argue that Cobblepot does not exist in that universe.

I'm only going to watch this if the first one is an origin story. I want to learn how a billionaire playboy becomes a masked vigilante.

I liked Argo, but I understand why people had issues with it. I still feel that, historical discrepancies aside, it was a very well directed film.

/Loved The Town and Gone Baby, Gone too.
