dletter: Here is the thing.... if women started going topless more often (mostly at appropriate places... as much as these "activists" are trying to be "provocative" and be topless walking down a street in downtown NY.... how many guys really walk around topless down city or neighborhood streets, other than near a beach, ie, a "boardwalk" in NJ or SoCal?)... would that ultimately (would take awhile, 5-10 years of that most likely at least) "desexualize" women's breasts.  That seems to be the mayors argument here... "Women's bare breasts would be a distraction".  And certainly, they would for awhile, but, eventually, wouldn't it become as commonplace as bare chested men (which, doesn't make people "distracted" in general), and become not a distraction?

The question becoming... is this what men are really afraid of?  That it will lose it's "titillation"?  Do men ultimately not want to have it not get them "excited"?  They don't want to lose that part of the heterosexual men's psyche?

If my enjoyment of breasts is anything like my enjoyment of pizza, then your theory is dead wrong. A constant variety keeps it interesting forever.

ArcadianRefugee: Stoker: Stoker: That was funny, and a little dumb.
It should have been done in public.

But if the issue is about a restaurant, no shirt, no shoes, no service.
It's getting to the point that public establishments need to have a sign and paper handouts indicating the rules of the facility.

I left out a word, added a border.
I was compelled to fix it before anyone noticed.

Also need to correct "your feet has fungus" before someone notices.

And also "Keep your children properly". Properly what? Behaved? Muzzled? Duct-taped to posts outside the restaurant?

bubo_sibiricus: Dreamless: Do you always paint with so broad a brush?

But he's correct.

How the fark did you ever exist without the sex drive of your parents?

You are now thinking about your parents having sex.  You're welcome.

I don't think I was claiming anywhere that my parents didn't have a sex drive.  I was arguing against the complete lack of nuance and respect for human variation in the statement.

/Yes, I did take socially of human sexuality in undergrad.

sendtodave: Oh_Enough_Already: Women: "We demand the right to go topless just like men do!"

Society: "Uh, okay."

Women 5 minutes later: "ZOMG! All these pervs are looking at my boobs! Somebody do something!"

If people are staring at their chests, they're still not being treated just like men.

Go to a beach and watch the women's eyes. They look at the hard-bodied male chests with just as much frequency, they are just better at not being obvious.

/soapbox

A woman attending to her business is not sexy, topless or not. The sexy is in her presentation. Her boobs alone are not distracting, except in a 'not normally seen' kind of way. I believe in equality in all things for all people, male or female; black or white; civilian or cop; politico or citizen. It's inconceivable that this is an issue today. Women were born with the inalienable right to nakedness and there should be no laws to circumvent it. Only she can determine to appropriateness of clothing herself.

/oh, and BIE?

I can't speak for all men, but for me, the more live boobies I see the more live boobies I want to see.
/EIP for any BIE that might be available to celebrate Go Topless Day.

We'd just focus on something else.  And then a bunch of women would cover that up (barely) and some women would protest.
