I'm probably in the minority, but I felt The World's End wasn't quite as hilarious as its predecessors. I can't quite put my finger on it, but the usual chemistry between Pegg and Frost seemed....absent. Perhaps a second viewing is in order.

The World's End wasn't expected to make tons of cash here in the U.S.  The other two films didn't make much here either.  It's across the pond where they make a tidy profit.

I found the other two improved upon rewatching.  I haven't seen The World's End yet but I suspect it will be the same way.

I think it was the weakest out of the three but that's like saying Andy Summers is the weakest member of the Police

No one has bothered to point out that subby screwed up the headline yet?  Ok.   Subby screwed up the headline.  TWE came in 4.  Planes was 5.

No shiat.

"Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" were both pretty mediocre. If "World's End" is even worse, then it must suck pretty bad.

They're movies that are made for internet dorks, basically. They aren't very clever, but they hit all the right notes for people that think *they* are clever.

Seriously.  It's a scary and at times quite funny home invasion movie that is by no means an Eli Roth flick.  Also, that damn song is still stuck in my head.

The fact the The Butler is number one on any list indicates just how pathetic our society has become.

You're Next kicked ass. It was like Kill Bill meets Home Alone.

2013-08-25 02:21:59 PM
Hey, Subby, fark you. Seriously, go fark yourself right in your stupid ear. You're Next was about as much "torture porn" (one of the most overused terms by people who have no idea what they're talking about) as Planes was, not to mention being far from dismal. The fact that it only hit #6 should be a cause of shame for the moviegoing public.

/Seriously wondering if Subby even saw it.
//Doubt it.

The worlds end was pretty great. That is all.

You're Next is the best horror flick since Cabin in the Woods. As for comedy, We're the Miller's is way better than The World's End.

2013-08-25 02:46:30 PM
Possible spoilers for worlds end but not really:

Until bar #3 it was just too slow, too much of pegg's character, just not that good. After that its on par with HF which is meant as a high compliment. Everything after they left town was just way too weird IMO.

Liked it a good amount, but just a little slow and weird. Sure rewatches will help a little.

Also kind of sad doomsday by Nero didn't make it into the movie. Worked perfectly in the commercials.

The Butler is based on the life of Eugene Allen. I know it's based on a article about him. My question is how a good of butler if he told a reporter anything? I would think not talking about what happens there.

You're talking to the Deadline Hollywood subby, who regularly fails at math, reading comprehension, humor, and life.

You're Next was made for under $1 million, and it raked in over $7 million in it's first two days of release.  That's not "thudding" by any standard.

On topic question: The mom and pop theater by me put up a notice on their website that they were pulling all screenings of You're Next, with no further explanation. My assumption is they got some complaints for some reason. Anyone who's seen the movie have any insight? Is it any more offensive than the average horror flick, or is it just this particular theater being weird?

They're being weird.  There's nothing particularly offensive in it for horror fans, casual or otherwise.

I sill want to know why the movie skips the Carter admin.

As a random-ass guess it could be that there were just too many hands in their pockets -- IIRC the producer's take alone is something around 50%?  A movie could sell out every night but if a theatre loses money on every patron, it's got a legitimate reason to pull the plug.

The movie isn't called the Butler.

It's Oprah Winfrey's Swiss Handbag and the Butler, dammit!

With the first two they rifted on the films they were taking off, zombie films and cop films, playing with the troupes. With this film it is hard to tell which troupes they toyed with, instead it was pretty much was the troupes. It lacked heart and the man-child character was in no way redeemed or changed. In the film the "good guys" lost and the bad guy won. It would be like if the Zombies or NWA won in the other two films

Not to mention it currently has an 80% on RT and TFA says it made $7 million this weekend. Not too shabby for a movie made for less than a million dollars.

Plus: Barbara Crampton!

But he's paying for the Fark links, so Drew just posts whatever the guy says to post.

Yeah. Maybe because I've been watching/playing Mass Effect 3 but I thought, when the movie was over, was that the main characters screwed up and doomed us all? Pyrrhic Victory and all that.

I don't buy that the aliens weren't evil. They killed a shiat ton of humans. And the ending makes zero sense from the technology side, but yes humans would be that drunk and stubborn. For the greater good.

The World's End was funny, but definitely the weakest of the trilogy. That might be because by now, we kind of know what to expect from Pegg, Frost, and Wright. Still worth the time and money.

Saw We're the Millers last night, and honestly, I don't get why everyone thinks it's hilarious. It had a good premise and the first half was funny, but once they got back over the border, I got bored with it. All the comedy setups started seeming like they were from a rerun of Three's Company or something. Eventually, I didn't care how it ended so much as I just wanted it to end.

I saw "You're Next" - there is no torture porn in it. All kills are swift. You could call a character pulling a shard of glass out of their leg "torture porn", but that's a serious stretch.

Calling a horror movie "torture porn" just because it's a horror movie is asinine, Submitter.
