djkutch: Lurk sober post drunk: wtf was that even about?

I dunno. I read it twice and I'm experiencing a sound like a mosquito buzzing in your ear. I'm going to have a Bloody Mary and study it out.

yeah, to me it made even less sense upon a second reading.

Larry Mahnken: ginandbacon: The per diem for federal workers in Manhattan is $216. I think they'll survive.

1derful: I am personally outraged that in a internet chock full of troll-bait, subby has to chose a horrible op ed piece.

It's not even an op ed piece. It's from the "Living" section. L.I.V.I.N.

Am......am I supposed to be outraged by that story? Or am I supposed to be outraged by the lack of outrage? Or am I supposed to be outraged at the restaurant owner? Maybe outraged by the restaurants patrons? Honestly, if the author can't clearly define the direction of my outrage, I'm lost.

BMulligan: ginandbacon: Lionel Mandrake: Artichokes are elitist, subby.  A Real American would know that.

What's the deal with capers because I love them. FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS!!!!!

Capers taste like tiny puke pellets.

You Sir, will NEVER be invited to my house for dinner. NOT EVER!

Cake Hunter: I read it twice and I still don't know what she's upset about. Was the grilled cheese overcooked or something?

Artichokes in the cream of tomato soup

Actually, that sounds good.

Toasted capers are farking awesome and so versatile they work just about anywhere you would use pepper - from broiled fish to salads to eggs to... well you get the idea.  Get a jar of capers, toast them in your toaster oven (300º for about 20-30 mins), then toss them all over everything you make.  You'll be glad you did.

It breaks down to $12 for lunch, which is right in the range quoted in the article for meals at that particular restaurant. The $5 for incidental expenses covers the slushies.

You're supposed to be outraged when Obama. That's how it works.

DeArmondVI: rzrwiresunrise: Wow. What a whiny biatch. I'm betting this is the same guy that won't tip his waiter cuz he forgot to fill his water just once.

CSB: a friend of mine who used to be a server once got tipped with a Chic tract. Not leaving anything would have been more valuable.

Also, wow. After just reading the word salad in the link all I got was "I don't like Obama, but have nothing of substance to say. That won't stop me from writing, of course, I just have so much bottled up passive aggression that I'm going to dedicate a paragraph to how it's a good thing Obama didn't order a soda, because we are die-hard about calling it pop here in Rochester; and had he done what he clearly didn't do, boy would he have been in hot water!" That's taking yelling at an empty chair to new levels.

Unless I read it wrong. Time for more coffee, I guess.

Chic tracted? Like rubbing a pillar of salt in your wound. Daang.

ginandbacon: ArkAngel: ginandbacon: colinspooky: Doesn't all that money come out of the same pot anyway?  Presidential salary, secret service, White House staff, military, roads, all that stuff will come out of the taxpayer pot. So I am assuming the subby's low level irritating is whether this group of staff paid for their lunch with their wages or expenses?

Does the President have a per diem? I'm honestly not sure. Everyone else does but is he a regular GS level employee? I have no idea how to figure that out. If he isn't, then he pays for meals out of pocket. His detail can expense anything as long as they don't go over. It varies by region and time of year but it would be hard to go over in most places. It's a pretty generous per diem.

He has an expense account. I believe it is $50,000.

Are you sure it's not $50,000,000? I feel like I heard that on Fox.

El_Swino: What the hell was that even about

She's outraged that Obama ate a lot of cheese in a half of a sandwich and soup, and a pickle isn't a vegetable.

Also, that the secret service paid for their own meals and will expense them, as if there is an alternative in the accounting practices of on-duty federal workers.

http://www.gsa.gov/portal/category/100120 & http://www.gsa.gov/portal/category/100120 Max lodging is listed first, by month. Meals and incidental expenses is on the far right. The breakdown per meal is here:  http://www.gsa.gov/portal/content/101518

I'm a federal employee and quite familiar with the per diem system.

No soup, just an artichoke with melted butter for dipping.

jake_lex: If it's the right wing derp-o-sphere, no matter what follows "Are we suppoed to be outraged when Obama...", the answer is "yes." The whole point of the right wing media is to keep low-information voters permanently angry at President Obama and the Democratic Party in general.

And no matter what, the right always enters election time with 25% of the vote right off the bat.

As far as your lunch goes, that's a lot of cheese, Mr. President.

We elected a President, sir.  Not a king!

Never impressed by much of anything on Park Ave.  The silliest place by far is the "Euro-African" bistro across the street from Jines.

are we supposed to be outraged when Obama

The answer is yes, subby.  The answer to that question is always yes.

2013-08-25 02:53:31 PM
"I'll have what the president had," I told the waitress at Magnolia's Deli & Cafe on Friday, just 23 hours after you dropped by one of Park Avenue's most popular cafés and ordered half a grilled cheddar sandwich on sourdough, cream of tomato soup with artichokes and cheese and a glass of iced tea.

As far as your lunch goes, that's a lot of cheese, Mr. President. And I'm not so sure the federal school lunch program, or the first lady, will count that pickle as a vegetable. Nice try.

Wouldn't the tomato soup and the artichokes count as the vegetable parts of the meal?

/Maybe he just should've put some ketchup on his sandwich. . .

2013-08-25 03:00:04 PM
Look at this president eating those sandwiches like he owns the place.

2013-08-25 03:20:36 PM
Did that article even have a point? It didn't even come off as particularly "outragey" to me. I was more confused than outraged by the end.

2013-08-25 03:34:43 PM
Obama is expected to pick up the tab for his entire security detail, that's the point.  He should also tuck them into bed and read them bedtime stories at night because they very well might take a bullet for him someday.
