Reposting my FB status here, but I this was actually my first thought of the day.

I awoke this morning with a vision.
I am to create a device that will rhyme with levee, so that cliche rock bands will have somewhere else to go besides the farking levee when things get 'heavy'.
Somehow this item will also resolve country bands rocking things 'like a wagon wheel'.

God dammit, so jealous: you have REAL CRAB.

I love the all-you-can-eat sushi joints in the Reno area, which have some very good sushi depending (I had some phenomenal Mackerel a few nights ago).  Sadly, I do not like that all of them use imitation crab rather than the real thing.  I love me some Kani, dammit!

not in all areas of Alaska, but there are areas that do attract it.  it's a split between diehard sledneck oil-loving development types, and artistic but not really new-agey types.  It's not a particularly easy place to live for part of the year, with the weather, isolation, and darkness.  But it's also a glorious post card factory with cool history and insane natural opportunities.

Nov 25th. It wasn't really cold. Most of the winter, the temp here hovers just low enough for snow... usually in the 30-35 range. I've had much worse winters in the Northeast, and don't even get me started on my winters in Buffalo...

Twitch Boy: yukichigai: I have determined that this is the ideal stream to back a play session of Saints Row 4.

Worth picking up?  Loved 2, thought 3 was a parody of itself and kinda kept you on rails the whole time.

SR3 was very much a parody of itself, but it had all the features you wanted in a GTA clone and almost none of the ones you hated.  Even if it was a bit "lead you by the nose".

SR4 is less GTA clone and more Prototype/Infamous clone.  The gameplay is entertaining, but very different than SR3/2. Cars are basically redundant and unneeded since you have superpowers, at least in the sim, which takes away a large portion of the old style of gameplay. Weapons are still awesome and if anything give you even more incentive to upgrade them, since instead of 4 "tiers" each weapon has 1-4 stats you upgrade, five tiers at a time, plus one special ability you can add on, PLUS you can swap out skins and appearances.  My Heavy Pistols right now are duplicates of Deckard's Gun from Blade Runner, though they more resemble the .223 Pistol from Fallout 2 what with the single trigger.  Hell, the skin I'm using is even called Bloody Mess.

I've had a blast. I'm vaguely missing the car driving mechanics, but the rest of the game is fun enough that I don't mind.

Oh, you can import your SR3 character if you upload it to the Saints Row official website, and you can have sex with every member of your gang except Keith David.

Nov 25th. It wasn't really cold. Most of the winter, the temp here hovers just low enough for snow... usually in the 30-35 range. I've had much worse winters in the Northeast, and don't even get me started on my winters in Buffalo...

pshaw, we have lovely winters in Buffalo now. In the last few years, it's hoodie weather most of the season now that weather patterns have changed long-term. I'm thinking of planting palm trees next year.

all my stuff I keep on Picasa. Sure it would suck to lose the original files I've got saved locally, but the meat and potatoes should be safe. And if Google ever goes tits up, I think vacation pics will be the last of my worries.

Towns like Juneau tend to get a lot of cruise ships and passengers go ashore. Royal Caribbean has tour buses too, plus their own train for excursions in Anchorage and Fairbanks that go to Denali & other locations.

The company I work for has about 30. The blue glacier bus has at least a dozen. The white glacier bus has probably about a dozen. Dolphin has at least 6. Probably 3-4 dozen cutaways among all the small operators.  And HAPA has probably at least 100. We get between 4-6 cruise ships most days, not to mention a couple smaller ships.

Oh... and every now and then you'll get one in town for a couple days from Reilly or Premier or Rotel.

soosh: wizden: hng: wizden: hng: wizden: Ha they didn't even street view you. WTF Alaska?

View was probably blocked by a HAPA bus.

...and nobody on here except me gets that.

Princess? GrayLine?

You lost me.

Most of the Street View shots around town have a tour bus in them. The current name of the company is HAPA (Holland America Princess Alaska)... but even most people around town don't know that. They usually use one of the old names when talking about them: either Princess or GrayLine.

How many freaking tour buses are there? Or is google just trolling you?

we're a town of around 37,000.  between May and September, we get more than one million cruise ship passengers.

Jesus Christ.

hng: wizden: How many freaking tour buses are there? Or is google just trolling you?

The company I work for has about 30. The blue glacier bus has at least a dozen. The white glacier bus has probably about a dozen. Dolphin has at least 6. Probably 3-4 dozen cutaways among all the small operators.  And HAPA has probably at least 100. We get between 4-6 cruise ships most days, not to mention a couple smaller ships.

Oh... and every now and then you'll get one in town for a couple days from Reilly or Premier or Rotel.

Jesus Christ.

I need to get a fanny pack and go to Juneau.

Not anymore. They only ran the tours out of Seward, but last year they sold that operation (it was actually called Royal Celebrity Tours) to Premier.

All of their Southeast Alaska tours are operated by Alaska Coach Tours.

and we're the biggest town on the Inside Passage cruises. The other stops range from 2,000 up.  Almost none of them are accessible by road from the rest of the world.   There's also a state ferry system for independent travelers that is pretty much booked in the summer, 737 jet service that is mostly full, and private yachts and smaller cruising vessels.  It's pretty goddamned cool.

I've always wanted to take those, but then I think about taking a relly good road car through there.

Of course, it's completely crowded.

Upper British Columbia, the Yukon, and Alaska highways have places you can find that are virtually deserted.  I want to build up some kind of rally-type car with room to sleep in it and a kick-ass stereo system and outside mounted cameras and travel them.

Story about those.. they were originally Park Service vehicles, but over the years, a tour operator in Skagway bought most of the surplus and restored them for daily use. A bunch of years ago they were all bought back and given full restorations.

Now in Skagway they run replicas...

My retirement pipe dream is to sell EVERYTHING I own, buy something spacious yet not too huge like one of those old 70's/80's Chevy conversion vans, customize the interior to have a kitchenette, bed, lounge area, etc. and just live out of a suitcase.

It's best to drive the Going To The Sun Road on weekdays during the day. Fewer people on the road, amazing views. I remember driving that road with my nephew Zack and I kept telling him we were losing the brakes on the truck. After a while he figured out I was full of crap. Still, they do have those run-off roads where semis can go off and it's kind of like a car trap pit. Apparently the brakes get used pretty hard coming down from the summit.

Not many things cooler than driving through a freaking cloud.
