Lol, comic fans. Yeah, that "male power fantasy" thing is just rubbish, right? "WHAT??? You drew Lobo with only a slightly better than normal physique? NOOOOOOOO1!"

That doesn't seem to line up well with the Wolverine parody I've gotten used to.

Dammit, I hate emos. Bunch of whiny little pussys. I wish I could give them something to cry about.

Apparently this change is because ""This Lobo is equal parts strong, vicious, and driven," said Harras. "There's a darker and more logical idea about what a force of nature like him is capable of. After all, this is someone who can infiltrate high society, fly a space ship, and adhere to a very specific moral code that's not your typical anti-hero one."
So apparently strong people are all drooling idiots who are incapable of logical thinking.
Unfortunate implications much?

Didn't newsarama already have an article on superhero makeover months back...with virtually exactly the same picks and information?  I know List-based articles are expected to be bad, but that's pathetic.

Uh, Lobo was designed as a mockery of such characters, and it turnedout he was so popular, the writers just rolled with it. In essence, he's liefeld's Bloodpouch with the popularity of ddead pool/wolverine

Yet another comic book character I've never heard of.

Makes me glad I stopped buying comics decades ago, when Marvel used to put out the same issue of Spider Man in three different covers for "collector's value". Little did I know that such stunts was just the tip of the short bus.

I'm wondering if the new look is to turn him into a mockery of the Twilight look being biatched about above. A new target to lampoon for a new age.

I like how people love to make comments like this.  The moment someone else bastardizes their own favorite stuff however, they'll be all 'FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU~!" about it.  What goes around comes around, etc.

I'm less annoyed with how he looks and more that he is going to be sane and driven. I like the old Lobo who would destroy half a galaxy and space time to get the guy who messed with his "fishies"

For those that don't know lobo he's the guy who beat the snot out of that wuss superman on two separate occasions.

And created a murderous gang of penguins.

OJ. Morphine. Lobo.

I think it's pretty funny, really. Lobo was supposed to be parody of the Punisher/Wolverine antihero types, and all the adolescent fanboys went crazy for him. Turning him into a svelte manscaped emo metrosexual seems like good entertainment to me.

Nah - they just couldn't greenlight a Lobo movie with the current style, so they're revamping him so some Hollywood poster boy can play him.

Your ignorance is showing.  The entire point of Lobo is that he's a complete parody of the "male power fantasy" thing.  He's the male power fantasy cranked to 11 and played for comedy.  Everything about him, from the huge muscles to the biker look to the drinking, womanizing, casual murder, etc. is designed with that end goal in mind.  Now they're talking about how they made these changes to make Lobo scary?  Lobo's not supposed to be scary, he's supposed to be funny.  Lobo is a giant dead baby comedy farce, and that's how his fans like him, thank you very much.

If they're going to trash his original identity they should make him a Juggalo.  He could at least keep the same color scheme and still remain hilarious.

as far as im concerned, the only Lobo I'll choose to remember is Giffen's and Bisley's various takes on him.

Just another sign comics are a dying breed.

I'll stick to graphic novels, some manga, and things like sandman.

Which would still work if they kept the humor going.

If they want to parody the Twilight generation, going to the leaner less masculine body type would work. But, you are in danger, if not correctly written, of making him a failed parody of the angsty hero.

Lobo, for the most part has managed to become an fairly solidified design. I don't think the readership will take to making this kind of change to him. This Lobo will probably be a short lived experiment.

As is, it's fair to say that the New 52 concept has been more failure than success. The only book that I thought was an improvement over it's old versions were the Suicide Squad series. The lineup for the 1st year actually gelled better than most "super groups".

It is my fervent hope that this guy will turn out to be a second slo-bo variant, who got stuck under a rock or something and didn't make it to the big fight on Apokolips.

The thing you have to remember about Lobo, aside from the comedy point other people have made, above, is that he was never dumb.  He's outrageous, sure, and seems impulsive, but is demonstratively capable of long-term planning that requires unusual behavior (see the sequence in which he forswears violence and becomes the 'pope' of a religion just to get at that religion's deity)

Plus, the new version would look silly no-selling a punch from Darkseid or Supes.

I gave up and just started pirating most DC comics. I still feel like I've been ripped off.
