Good.  The more irrational demands they make, the more they will put off their followers.  See also: The Catholic Church

Not all of us are like bunch mentioned in the article. I attend a Lutheran church and my pastors remark every now and then that the church ia a "hospital for sinners" and that all are welcome, even gays and lesbians, because their sins are no better or worse than everybody else's. If the pastor of the church in the article cannot grasp that concept then he needs to step down and let someone takeover who understands what is and isn't in Scripture,

I think she was joking, as was I. My mother is Episcopal and her church is very open-minded. They would welcome this woman and her daughter with open arms.

They're obviously unfamiliar with the teachings of this guy they call "Jesus Christ Almighty".

I'm hoping so, but I still don't like seeing comments such as that one as I really don't liked being lumped in with bona fide bigots just because they share some of my beliefs.

Yeah, that'll totally happen.

I totally agree with the church. If she lives her daughter of course they don't want her. She could set a bad example to younger members.

On the upside, now she find a church to have her funeral in that isn't full of assholes before she dies.

"Religion is an insult to human dignity. Without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."

I've quoted Preacher before and I'll quote it again: you can take your dogma and shove it up your ass if one word of it says I can't stand by my friends.

I would recommend doing exactly what Jesus would do: Beat up a banker and go find a hooker.

So Christians are being Christians as usual and we're just NOW deciding to get mad at them for it?

Not all churches are hateful like this one.

But, don't you think in all the time the mother spent worshipping at this church she would've known the views of the congegation or pastor? You would think she would've heard some hate spewed and been like no thanks I'll get my Jesus elsewhere.

Maybe she was hoping to lead by example.  I know, crazy, WHAT KIND OF CHRISTIAN WOULD PUT HERSELF AT ODDS WITH HER CONGREGATION???

/probably just the most Christ-like ones.

Good for the church.  No, seriously, good for them.  If they are going to be close-minded, ignorant bigots stuck in the past then I have to at least give them credit for practicing what they preach.  Now, with that being said, the church can go rot in Hades.

*Most* churches aren't this hateful. It'll be interested to see what happens if this story goes national, whether the congregation actually condones what the church leadership did here or if there's blowback. People don't like being presented to the world this way.

Linda Cooper has not taken the exile from her church well. "She is just so traumatized and so upset," Hunt Cooper said. "It has been days and she's still crying. It's almost like losing a family member."

That's because Jesus doesn't love you anymore, Linda. All he asks is your saccharine adoration and becomes petulant if He does not receive this flattery.*

I grew up attending a Church of Christ, and my first thought upon reading the Fark headline was, "Sounds like a my old church."

I can only recall one or two "disfellowshippings".

Depends.  Generally the type of church that would make a member publicly condemn her own daughter probably goes along with that crap.

What Christ like behavior this church has shown! I totally remember that part in the new testament about gay people, how you should shun and hate them even your own children if they're gay and how marriage is between a man and a woman.

2013-08-24 10:45:27 PM
and they wonder why church membership is dropping?
