Excellent.  Dexter was incredible.

I got to see him live, close-up, at the old Jazz Showcase in the Blackstone Hotel in Chicago. I looked like the French guy in that clip from "Round Midnight". :-)   it WAS an awesome show. I remember the group that brought me were all older kids, and they were amused watching Dex sidle offstage and take a hit of coke during an extended drum solo.  I was disappointed seeing that part, but there was no mistaking I was listening to a musical genius as he played.

Some time later, I'm spinning records at the college radio station, filling in for the jazz DJ, and I break out Dexter's version of "As Time Goes By". It was a warm august evening,  a ruddy sunset shading into purple,  almost but not quite done, and I had the room lights low, the window open in the studio, the traffic noise from 4 floors up was just a slight murmur, wafting in with the sultry breeze, and Dexter playing with the monitor speakers cranked.  It was just about the most perfect Friday Night I'd ever had up to that point.

Good, I am glad some people like it.

I thought there were a few jazz fans on FARK. I was still surprised it got green. But I am prepared to see the fewest clicks and comments than any other link on the page today.

As usual a Fark jazz thread hasn't let me down and the music is exactly what I expected.

A fine example of why it's such a joy to play and listen to music. Keep them coming  Subby; I call for a weekly jazz night on Fark.

Love it. Rarely see anything off of the main page; glad I noticed this. Played tenor in high school, teaching myself guitar these days.
