J.R. Ewing for the win!

Also, Gary from Gary's Olde Towne Tavern.

Nothing from Star Trek? No Khan in blackface? The Borg? Gul Ducat? Q was sort of a villain in the first few episodes but then his daughter OD'd and he crashed a plane and he was never the same.

And I don't really see Tony Soprano as a villain.

2013-08-24 09:41:28 AM
Very happy to see Leland Palmer on the list.

Also, Don Draper doesn't fit.  He's not the villain or antagonist, he's just a very screwed-up protagonist.

ArkAngel: They put in Skeletor but not Dr. Claw?

Not Claw, Craw.  He was great.

I would have suggested Dick Dastardly.

I think he is more of an antihero than anything else

Unless you consider Dick Whitman to be the hero.

I don't remember the entire show but I don't think he killed any innocents. And he did genuinely care about his family even though his wife was a biatch and his kids were assholes.

Regarding Breaking Bad, why Gus and not Walt? Okay, Gus was a drug kingpin. But Walt killed a bunch of people, ordered the death of an innocent guy (well he was a meth cooker but otherwise innocent), planted an explosive device on the aforementioned Gus and poisoned a child. And he sort of awkwardly raped his wife. Oh and let the hot goth girl die.

Breaking Bad, at its most basic, is a story about how a decent man turned evil. Walt is evil, plain and simple. His actions are indefensible. I think that the creator of Breaking Bad wants us to hate Walt.

Seems like a lot of new-ish characters on that list.  I agree that the lack of the Borg is a shame.  They really are the epitome of an awesome sci-fi villain to me.

Gaius Baltar would be a nice addition to that list.

Did he turn out to be a villain? The ending of Lost was so farked up I don't recall.

Where are the Batman villains? The Joker, The Riddler? I realize the people who write these things are born in the late 90s but still.

"TV villains."

Any villain to this is a hero.

/it's really the best perspective to use when watching TV Batman.  No matter what they do, he and his anger management manchild sex slave keep getting away.

The list seems decidedly British heavy as well.

I don't want to be "that guy", but boy is this list uneven.

Lack of Borg, for one thing.

Would Francis Urquhart have been given any consideration without the current House of Cards series on Netflix?

Is Tony Soprano really a villain?

Six_By_Nine:

He pretty much pioneered the villain protagonist trend on TV/cable. Vic Mackey, Dexter, SAMCRO and others all followed his lead.

1. Spike
2. The Mayor
3 . The Cylons (new version)
4. Yellow Eyed Demon
5. Victor Newman. (Young and the restless)
I would have include all of these.

*Spoiler*

...

I actually rewound and watched her death scene like three times I was so wound up about all her insufferable constant survival. What was it, halfway through the third season before we finally got the satisfaction?

2013-08-24 12:03:16 PM
Bah,Justified has had three, maybe four, villians that deserve to be on the list more than the guy from Entourage or Don Draper.
Deadwood had at least two other baddies besides Al that were deserving.

And Gul Ducat missing from there is insane.

2013-08-24 12:03:22 PM
Goddamn what a shiat list.

No Goa'uld, no replicators, no Klingons, no Wraiths, no Cylons, no Romulans, no Boss Hogg, no Spike, no Mayor, no Terminators, no Peacekeepers, and worst of all no Scorpius!

2013-08-24 12:03:53 PM
Good to see The Master on there. I would have added Sylar from Heroes.

Well Mandy is hotter and she was never caught. Here's hoping she'll be in the upcoming 24 TV movie. And naked.

Then there's the moralist antihero grey area trend:

The governor isn't a great TV villain.  He's boring and annoying and needs to go away.

The rest of the list seems pretty good, from the shows I've seen at least.  Except I don't get the Don Draper thing.  Of course I've only watched through Season 5, so perhaps things take a very dramatic turn.  There did seem to be a hint of it when he had that fever dream.
