Very sorry to hear about the Parkinson's. Always loved her voice.

"Ronstadt has won nearly a dozen Grammy awards and sold more than 100 million albums worldwide, according to Simon & Schuster, which is due to publish her memoir this year.

The Arizona-born singer's 1974 record, "Heart Like a Wheel," yielded hits including "You're No Good," "When Will I Be Loved" and "It Doesn't Matter Anymore."

The soft rock album soared to No. 1, selling more than 2 million copies, according to the AllMusic reference website."

Did you not watch the Mr. Plow episode of The Simpsons at least?

She had a few nice soft rock duets with Aaron Neville in the 80's as well.

You've heard 1 song by her. She did a duet with Aaron Neville.
"I don't know much... but I know I love you."

She also sang the Plow King jingle in Simpsons.

Much like the question "Who was Eric Burdon?", I can understand why a person my age wouldn't be familiar, but you are the lesser for it. I was introduced to her through the Muppet Show, and it remains one of my favorite musical episodes. Lady has a real nice voice, and used it on music that may not be your mainstay but is pretty hard to outright hate.

Very nice summary!

More from Wiki:
"Christopher Loudon of Jazz Times noted in 2004, Ronstadt is "Blessed with arguably the most sterling set of pipes of her generation ... rarest of rarities-a chameleon who can blend into any background yet remain boldly distinctive ... It's an exceptional gift; one shared by few others."

In total, she has released over 30 studio albums and 15 compilations or greatest hits albums. Ronstadt charted thirty-eight Billboard Hot 100 singles with twenty-one reaching the top 40, ten to the top 10, three to No. 2, and "You're No Good" to No. 1. In the UK, her single "Blue Bayou" reached the UK Top 40[7] and the duet with Aaron Neville, "Don't Know Much", peaked at No. 2 in December 1989. In addition, she has charted thirty-six albums, ten Top 10 albums, and three No. 1 albums on the Billboard Pop Album Charts."

Love both versions! It really seems like there was so much more cooperation and respect between all of the various artists back in the day. Karla Bonoff, the McGarrigle sisters, James Taylor, JD Souther, the Eagles, Neil Young, etc., etc., etc.

Oh man, this sucks to hear. I'm far too young and my parents listened to far too much classic rock for me to have a childhood crush on her, but I saw this and was smitten.

That is so true. And this was the golden era, after The Pill and before AIDS.

The 70s kicked ass, the decade you grew up in probably sucked.

She was hot and almost hittable. I say almost because you have to consider who hit it before you (ie Carmen Electra has the taint of Denis Rodman)

Linda has the taint of Jerry Brown on her though I think she may have been a beard in that case and remained untainted):

If you get a chance to see the movie "FM", watch it.  Has some pretty good concert footage in it from when she was in her prime.  HOT PRIME!

/because of the number of songs on FM, you won't find it on DVD, Netflix or Amazon instant downloads.  I picked up a VHS copy (for the young, a VHS was what beat out BETA as a means to record movies, sell them to the public, and be able to watch them in fuzzy clarity in the privacy of your home).  Jimmy Buffett (when he was skinny) also has footage in that movie.
