My last 1 week vacation was dedicated to rum, bacon and video games.  I don't need a special day for it.

I wouldn't have thought this was a surprise to anyone, but I get honest, serious messages from friends and family acting like they're federal holidays and somehow important.

People are bad at seeing through marketing.

National Rum Day is a holiday without a real origin. No government agency has officially recognized it.

I'd never, ever heard of these, and I can't believe anyone gives a fark.

Where you can't even get Watney's Red Barrel and cheese and onion...

Of course, near all holidays are shams. Celebrate what you want, when you want, where you want, how you want, and with who you want, but there is no reason a little outside motivation or suggestion cannot be helpful. I will get myself a mojito or daquiri without an industry making a fake day for rum, but why not have a day for this? On the other hand, would never buy Christmas cards and lights and trees and such except when the folks expect all of the decor around this day.

There needs to be a National Bacon Day!

Everyday is rum day!

what in the bloody hell are they talking about anyway?  I've never heard anything about any of this.  I'm a bachelor and eat out almost every day and I never see anybody trying to pass this crap on.

It's National "Sell your perishable food before expiration" Week.  Everything 2% off.

WHO FARKING CARES????

Seriously, who? If the restaurant down the road wants to have drink specials for "Rum Day", how does that affect me in any way?

THIS.

I would draw the line at creating new mythology or some sort of overarching "requirement" for participation like Valentines Day, but if people want to highlight some product 1/365th of the year, either ignore it, or think to yourself, "ya know, I haven't had a rum ball in a long time" and go get yourself a rum ball.

It's not like you're a pariah if you don't have one.

No mirliton festival or Chaz Fest?  Come on man, Bywater represent!

People actually do this?

2013-08-23 10:28:42 PM
The only real holidays are church holidays.  Specifically, Church of the SubGenius holidays.

For example, the rest of August:

23 Nuclear Accident Day
24 St. Aubrey Beardsley
25 St. Heliogabalus
26 St. Lizzie Borden
27 St. Harris/St. Klebold
28 St. Frank Gorshin
29 St. Gahan Wilson
30 St. Thor
31 St. Paul Reubens

No government agency has recognised my birthday as a holiday either. Still a good excuse to get drunk and eat with friends.

/Would say she is a blast at parties
//But she probably doesn't go to non-sanctioned events
