How did these two miss out on being in the Branch Davidian compound, or with the castrated Heaven's Gate mass suicides?

Seriously travel forward for lotto numbers? I remember wanting to do that when I was 12.

Soteriou spent more than $4 million of the money on luxury hotels and cars as he pursued a spiritual quest he believed would allow him to transcend earthly life and travel through space and time. That accomplishment, Parker told the court, would allow Soteriou to go ahead in time and see winning lottery numbers, then return to the present and win the money by purchasing lottery tickets and marking down the correct numbers.

I was speechless for a few minutes after reading this.  People gave this man $28 million dollars.  I truly did not realize people were THAT stupid.

Is the story featured on This American Life last year? If so, it's actually quite a story.

Meanwhile, thousands of talented would-be-could-be filmmakers with nothing but respect for the industry and a desire to entertain won't be able to get the $500 bucks they need to make a goddamn promo.

"Among those demands was a requirement that Parker keep Soteriou's involvement in the film a secret from the investors." Investors didn't even know that guy was involved, let alone a psycho farkup.
