Ads? Please, most girls are indoctrinated to the shopping lifestyle before they can read.

I got off easy; my mom was old-school and learned Depression era thrifty ways from Granny, even though she didn't need them.

Having a 10 year old daughter, how is this not appropriate? I'm guessing it comes from someone who either hates socialization in school or will never have children due to the shrill harpy noises emenating from their mouths. As a corporate entity, the best thing you can do is ignore the crazies. They make no difference in your actual sales.

FTA:Patricia Parsons, communications professor at Mount Saint Vincent University, said she thought the campaign was tasteless, a bit sexist and humiliating to women.

"Unfortunately there probably are young women who probably find this thing kind of funny. It's one of the things though that I suspect their parents don't find very funny. And I did note yesterday on Twitter that a father chimed in and said, 'So this is what they think of our daughters,'" she said.

Well. This is what humorless coonts that need to justify their useless jobs do to get attention. I'm sure Patricia is very smart.

I dunno, the article claims that lots of people were offended. Maybe so. Hopefully this means that every girl that saw the ad will understand and decide to  purchase only manly products, when they are forced to buy things. Because teenaged girls certainly would respond to the ad in a bad way and need someone to focus their anger.

What is wrong with girls enjoying cheap clothes for personal taste? My daughters choice are cheap and printed as needed online. The fancy stuff is made even more regularly. Textiles have never been cheaper than they are now. I can

CSB time:

I was the only guy working in a realtor's office once where all the women had that exact attitude.

One day, a pickup truck ran off the road in front of the office. Of course since "only men drive trucks", they start making jokes about how all men are bad drivers, the most common being some variation of 'he was distracted by his penis'. I said "I think that might have been a woman", and the boss fires back "one more word and you're fired".

A few minutes later the driver comes walking into the office asking to use the phone. The boss casually asks "was the driver hurt". The woman answers "I'm not hurt, I was distracted and ran into the ditch".

At that exact moment, all the realtors stared looked like they wanted to kill me. I just looked at the boss, made a 'zip my lips' motion, and started to get back to work.

I was fired on the spot.

"Well I think it's as they say, 'A day late and a dollar short,' it's one of those things they should have done in the first place, before they ever implemented this plan. There should have been some decision-making around the whole idea of whether or not something is appropriate, tasteful and an ethical approach to communication which is what this campaign was supposed to be," she said.

sooo... you are just throwing a hissy with no end goal?  This is why you never cave to these people, they will NEVER back off, and you just validated their "Im so empowered, but far too fragile to have a joke made about people who are kind of like me but much younger than me" attitude.

/ it sounds as though Parsons wont be going to the mall, which will also help the malls reputation among its target audience.  Old whiney biatches are a drag at the mall.

Actually I did, back in the days when those specifications applied (except I am brunette). I'm happy to say I'm not in touch with a single one of them.

I grew up in a pretty affluent area (though a few notches below the top tier of the county), up until 1988 we lived a pretty upper-middle class lifestyle. Then I was introduced to the reality of 'Dad got laid off at the age of 45 and never recovered, and a few years later mom got cancer, then a few years later it came back and she died'.

Fortunately she taught me most of what I needed to know to get by before that happened.

No matter what you do or say, someone somewhere will be offended by it. The only way to stop this ridiculous crap is to stop giving in to them. Someone tells you they're offended by your ad? Tell them thanks for the input and leave the ad in place. Giving in to them only makes them think they can get away with it every time.

I've always hated that phrase about the customer's always right - it's inaccurate. It should be "the customer knows what they want, don't try to decide for them."

The only time I get excited about shopping is when it's for electronics. Or toys for my nephews. Because that way, I can cruise the Batman and GI Joe aisle and not feel weird. The nieces, not so much. "Uh...I guess a barbie? But what kind? Surf barbie? Vet Barbie? Malibu surf Barb....Two kinds of surfing barbies? AAAAAAAH! *curls on the floor in a ball of my own urine and tears*"

/Got my 6 year old niece a Alfred Hitchock The Birds edition of a barbie one year.  Had some terrifed looking barbie with little birds stuck all over her. It was awesome. Her mom wasn't as pleased as I was.

It really offends me people think women and girls are too stupid recognize a joke. I highly doubt there was any teenager or girl who thought "Oh so I'm suppose to be stupid in science? Guess I'll blow off that class and go shopping!"

I didn't think it was particularly noteworthy advertising. Slightly humurous, but I wouldn't have given two thoughts about it. Some people just need something to biatch about.

That it does... Sinfest is #1 when it comes to making war on (radical feminism's delusional and rather offensive caricature of) men:

The author/artist is Tatsuya Ishida(male.)  I imagined this in context of Japanese/Chinese relations and wondered how Japanese would react.  I suppose you could also substitute black and white relations.

Yup.  That is the rule book we work from thanks to being complete dicks to women for several thousand years.  It sucks, but hey, at least we could usually get laid without threat of stoning or societal shunning for the last couple hundred decades.

It's a good thing that boys don't have such fragile self images and can weather unhealthy gender stereotyping much better than girls can. Oh wait no. Sorry, I got that one wrong. They do, and they can't. Thanks to attitudes like yours we are farking up multiple generations of young men.

I'm getting pretty tired of the "internet outrage of the week" lately. People must just keep their outrage in their pocket, ready to just whip it out. Dafuq?

How do you get fired as a realtor?

That's a profession with a lower bar of entry than being a sex offender.

As evidenced by his story of a bunch of sexist realtors getting him fired for proving their sexist foolishness.  I assume he was an administrative assistant or 'the companies computer guy'.

I thought those ads were quite clever and fun. They probably pulled them for the free PR rather than being sensitive to the vocal minority's feelings.

Actually men have a wide range of self images. Problem is, even the ones with durable self images are getting farked up by the unintended consequences of the incentive structure feminists have legally established.

Fano: FTA:Patricia Parsons, communications professor at Mount Saint Vincent University, said she thought the campaign was tasteless, a bit sexist and humiliating to women.

MSVU - A very womyn empowered university.  When i went there in the late nineties the gender split was 85/15 female/male.  They styled themselves on being the empowerment university for women.  Men were for the most quietly tolerated, (they only started admitting them in 1967 and only allowed on campus housing for them in the early 80's I think).  I think her comments on this may be clouded by her personal views.

/Excellent Public Relations Degree Program though

I must add that this headline went downhill quite rapidly after the "Mall pulls back-to-school ads depicting young girls as lovers" bit.

Kahabut: Even better when you come back with a sexual harassment suit and wrongful termination.  If that story is true, you could have owned that place by the end of it.

I was on a contract job to set up and maintain their network and PCs, so I'm not sure wrongful termination would apply.

In any case, my contract stated that any termination of the contract meant I would be paid in full, and at the time I was only a week into the 12 month contract, so I think I came out ahead in that deal.

Why is it that every time I make a post about the treatment of men in the media you douchebags throw up straw feminist arguments in support of me. Stop it.  I have nothing against women and the type of feminist you describe is not in any way representative of the majority of feminists assuming that they even exist at all.  Why is a position in favor of positive male role models tied to the destruction of feminism in your mind?

Because Anthony Weiner is the closest thing to a positive male role model that feminism is capable of supporting.

I think HRM is trying to make up for the whole Rehtaeh Parsons thing right now. The ads are dumb, but this type of thing wouldn't normally receive so much OUTRAGE!!!!!ELVENTY!!11!! if the community hadn't received a shiatstorm of bad publicity internationally for the past 6 months or so over a teen girl who was at a party a couple years ago, reportedly gang raped while drunk, had pictures taken of it, spread around school, and then killed herself. HRM also tried to get Chris Brown (who is a horrible, unapologetic assclown) banned from performing here recently as well. He's too "sick" to play here now, and I think he's a horrible person, but I fail to see how banning him would have really done anything. We've let other assholes who beat the shiat out of their significant others perform here with no issue before. The city is on a major "we need to treat women with respect" kick right now. It's a good thing, but admittedly, they're going way overboard with it. I could be completely off base here, but that's how I'm seeing things now.

Fano: Bedstead Polisher: gutter_ca/fl: Really, nobody actually looked at the ads? It's not that they portrayed girls as loving shopping, it's that they made it look like girls don't want/need serious education. Or that they're incapable.

That's what I got from it too.
I know women like that, dumb as bricks but can shop like a champ. They definitely don't seem to care that they know NOTHING about the world or its history. Everything they know about life they pulled from the latest gossip or fashion magazine. These ads seem to glorify that.

They are people too. don't they deserve to be catered to?

I suppose one should market to all demographics even if it's the easiest one. Shouldn't one try to market to those who aren't buying into your ideology to begin with?

Anyway, fark math. Who needs it? My credit card limit goes until they cut off my card, right? 20% off sale? OMG, I can buy 3 times as much! Think of the money I'm saving!
