According to a flyer that had been circulated among parents, the former gym teacher-turned-school administrator aimed to enforce safety in 'a positive way'

Safety? What, students are in danger of falling down if they don't kneel?

No.  That is a comment that is often posted when a poster believes that the Weeners in a thread is all that is required in the thread.

Gawd, ask the children to do just a LITTLE physical exertion in their day to day and everybody's up in arms.

Good lord, kids were being asked to obey an order from a teacher to take a knee? Has anyone notified the football team that they're being played for chumps?

1) he's a former gym teacher, refer to item #2
2) "take a knee" is not the same as "kneel before me", it's commonplace in sports.
3) neither The Daily Mail nor tardmitter seem to have a problem with kneeling for the Pope or monarchy.
4) anyone want to play "guess the race of the parent who had a problem with this" (hint: they wrote "adminstartion" on their poster)?

Safety?  For children who are overweight or have motor difficulties, kneeling could actually cause problems.

"Everyone get down on one knee" is a surprisingly good way to get kids to chill out for a second.

THE GREAT NAME: State sector employee. They secretly think they are some secret new aristocracy.

I think the bigger issue is the new FOOTBALL!! aristocracy, and to a lesser extent the power trips people involved in other sports could take. There's a reason there are all those other non-stadium buildings on campus, and it sure as hell is not football.

Mr Carter, who had spent five years working as an assistant principal in the district, is expected to schedule a meeting with parents to talk about alternative safety measures.

Huh?!  Alternative to kneeling?  Try just lining up and going to class like kids have been doing, I dunno, forever?

2013-08-23 03:46:12 AM
It's a good start. We need to teach these little bastards respect. Otherwise, they go around shooting people when they get bored.

2013-08-23 03:47:06 AM
"Taking a knee" for safety reasons is only acceptable if the individuals in question are armed. Then it demonstrates to their opponents that no forward movement is planned, hence, no attack is imminent. By extension "taking a knee" in football means that (surprisingly) no forward motion is planned, and the ball (the "weapon") is downed at that point.

Having elementary students "take a knee" for "safety reasons" meets none of the above requirements and therefore is stupid beyond belief and the only other possible reason is that the principal gets off on seeing a bunch of little kids on their knees in front of him so he can revel in his power over them.

2013-08-23 03:48:33 AM
Whether these particular children are asked to take a knee or not, children in general are managed like livestock in elementary schools.

OK kids, everyone get under your desk until the bombs stop going off and we say it's safe to come out!

I'm guessing you mean when the authority - the coach - tells his subordinate to kneel down and listen to him?  Yeah, totally different.

stonelotus: anyone want to play "guess the race of the parent who had a problem with this" (hint: they wrote "adminstartion" on their poster)?

No?  Of course not, why should we?
