I do live in Russia. I am not a citizen, and will not live there anymore after June 2014, but I live there. This law is disgraceful and have many friends, ex-pats and Russian citizens, who agree with me. Do I think my opinion matters more than people who have never been to Russia and probably never will? No. The law is that farking bad

Pass all the laws you want.  Gay people will still be gay and fark other gay people.  See nature wins.

HAMMERTOE: Personally, I've made my peace with homosexuality. But I respect the right of other cultures and countries to their own mores, just like I respect the right of gays to theirs.

This "I respect cultures" that break others bones and imprison them because of their 'mores' and abuse human rights for people that do not harm you needs to stop.

There's nothing respectful in that; nothing at all.

You've 'made your peace with Homosexuality'....for something that doesn't physically affect you it's very nice you've made peace with that, geeze to even think gays would have to go you and you kind to 'ask permission' to be human is insulting.

So, TeaPottie logic.

Good to know it isn't just the American conservative that has totally lost it's ability to think clearly. Good heterosexual Aryans have nothing to fear.

Part of the original motivation for the Soviet Revolution was the fact that the Orthodox Church pretty much dictated what defined morality and civilized behavior in Russia before the Communists took over, and people were sick of religious doctrine being substituted for Justice. Not too many people missed the Church after the mid 1920s or so. The Church was the most direct enforcer of the Serfdom laws and the caste system in pre-communist Russia. And enforcement was severe.

Putin is a farking pussy.

His third term is illegitimate even by Russian standards. This is an ideological proxy war to tie homosexuality with Western influence and it's only the beginning. Gays are just the easiest target right now. But make no mistake, they are not the last.

This is one of the few Federal legislative actions not to originate from the Kremlin. It percolated up from a regional Governor. It is worded vaguely not in anticipation of clashes with the IOC -- that was a given -- but because the language allows for selective enforcement. A minority party Presidential could be charged under the law for disagreeing with it.

He's weak. This would be like Obama banning Tea Party rallies.

ShobuZukuri: It is not normal it is a biological dead end.

The problem here isn't even that you're wrong.  The main problem is that it would have taken less than five minutes with a search engine and an internet connection to have discovered that you were wrong.  And then, if you were an honest person who had put five minutes (or less) effort into checking your facts, you could have prevented yourself from embarrassing yourself.

So, odds are good that you're really very lazy, or you already know what you're saying is nonsense, which essentially makes you a liar.

Now, see, you've pretty much announced to everyone in the thread that you're lazy or dishonest, or maybe just that you haven't the first idea who to debate a controversial topic earnestly.  Really your best bet at this point would be either to claim to be very young or at least new to this whole "Internet" thing.

It's ok, really, this is Fark, we get a lot of that here.

Tatterdemalian: so many people worship Darwin but never actually read his books

That brings to mind two interesting stories. Well, mildly amusing stories.

Okay, Okay. That brings to mind two stories that I'm going to share even though they're mind numbingly boring.

My grandfather went to church every day with his mother when he was young. Around 12 or 13, he ended up with a copy of Darwin's Origin of Species. After reading it and deciding that it all held together, he decided that if some preacher is going to be telling him something else then that ought to hold together as well. So he went for a few months, taking notes every Sunday. At the end, he read the notes, decided the preacher was full of it and never went back to church in his life.

Other story: In college I found a 100 year old copy of The Origin of Species on the library shelf. I took it up to the counter to ask if it was supposed to be there, and was told it was. So I asked if I could check it out. Of course, I could. Then I asked how much they'd bill me if I reported it lost. The student behind the counter looked at me confused but the actual librarian a little ways away told me she'd find me and beat me. I took it up and reshelved it in favor of checking out a newer copy.

Oh, please instruct all the rubes here about what constitutes "natural law".

The laws that govern everything that doesn't go away when people stop believing in it. Stuff like the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter being an irrational number, the change in internal energy in a closed system being accounted for entirely by the heat absorbed by the system and the work done by the system, and the fact that homosexual males are still biologically male.

/so many people worship Darwin but never actually read his books
//but then, to people that expect whatever they call "perfection" from their man-made gods, that way lies madness

Evidently.

So, Charles Darwin, an individual who most definitely existed, published works of scientific literature and pretty much founded an entire scientific area of study, is a man made god, but the imaginary "all powerful, all knowing" creator of everything there is and everything else besides, is not?

Remember, Nazi Germany relaxed many laws (gun restrictions especially) for law-abiding Germans.  Then they went and made Jews illegal.
