What? What food and beer am I going to drink if I'm not allowed to consume chemicals?

2013-08-22 05:51:24 PM
Food and beer are chemicals.  And it will really blow your mind when I explain what "organic" actually means.

2013-08-22 06:16:10 PM
You know, this article is telling us what we already know.

But people still want to believe otherwise.

Eat food and drink beer for tomorrow we die.

2013-08-22 06:18:38 PM
Sounds like the writer is linking correlation with causation.

I should remind you that we have started living longer since we started eating more "Chemicals."

2013-08-22 06:19:45 PM
Considering how long the human body has been evolving, it seems common sense that the sudden switch to modified high fructose hyrdogenated enriched whatever would cause problems.

I subsist entirely upon a diet of silicon chips.

Chemicals are bad! We should ban all of them! The first to go should be dioxide and hydrogen dioxide!

I have personally sworn off both to help our children.

.....it's so dim in here....and hard to maintain balance

I'm sure most could extend their lives by eating raw and unproccesed food.

But why would you want to?

2013-08-22 06:20:29 PM
Watch one of those surgery shows on television where they have some person's chest splayed open and are sucking fat out with a Shop-Vac. It makes that broccoli go down a lot easier.

When talking about meet it is a really bad idea to eat it raw, unless you want to spend 50% of your day chewing.

Now who's confused about correlation and causation? Along with chemicals came surgery, anti-biotics, pharmaceuticals and a health care industry bent on keeping Granny Jolene alive with ventilator for as long as possible.

Just look around at all the diabetes and obesity. Just because medicine can mitigate this disaster, doesn't mean its good for you because you would have died of typhoid 150 years ago.

Sorry, that was part of the sarcasm, no correlation is causation intended.

Good meat is tender when raw and only gets tougher with a little cooking. You must buy some really terrible cuts and have to cook it forever to break down all the connective tissues.

Ms CJHardin has a soy allergy so processed foods and fast foods are right out.  I met her 3 years ago and I can tell a positive difference in my overall health.

You really get to know more about your food (and the long list of chemicals within) when you have to read ingredients on everything.

Tonight: dihydrogen monoxide! Is it in YOUR water supply?

2013-08-22 06:34:54 PM
Personally, I don't want to live a long time (i.e. being decrepit and unable to take care of myself) but I do want to live my life well.  If that means I bite the dust at 60 or 65 so be it.  I will try to stay healthy, fit, and enjoy what I have.  Then when my time comes, well it really won't matter cause I'll be freak'n dead*...

*please see dead parrot sketch...

Raw in the term of unproccesed, not that stupid raw diet where you really eat everything uncooked.

Sorry hippies, the human stomach has been coddled with the invention of fire over time. As much as you'd like to eat those taters raw, you're trying to rewind evolution.

Everything is a chemical.

If modern life is so gosh-darned awful for us, why are we living longer than ever?

Don't gorge on cheese (processed or otherwise) for a decade and expect to be healthy, but that's obvious. Get some exercise once in a while. But for god's sake stop stressing out about chemicals and 'toxins' when you don't even know what those words mean.

So what about this old guy, he didn't have access to all the amenities of first world life?

It's easy to be a holy healthy man on a mountain, away from all the influences, diseases, pollution, processed foods of the rest of the world.

CSB: I refused to eat Arby's when I was young because I made a connection between their food and my hands getting itchy and puffy and hurty. I thought there was a genuine allergy there and just refused their food. Yesterday I figured I'd bring up their ingredients list and see if there was anything obvious and my hands started hurting. Lo' and behold, a psychosomatic allergy.

"Organic" comes from organic chemistry, which is simply the study of compounds containing carbon.  It used to be limited only to those compounds produced by living things, but has been expanded to include carbon compounds synthesized by humans, including hydrocarbons.

But it's our evolution that allowed us to create such things. Humans and all of our machinations are just as natural as a forest.

We won't discuss the fact here that all these "old, healthy people" are often not as old as they often pretend to be; nor that the younger unhealthy people are not around because they DIED instead of getting their infirmities treated, as they would in a more modern society.

But carry on with your noble-savage worship.

Even though HuffPo generally sucks, and there are a lotta 'dietitian' tards out there, I read the article and it was pretty reasonable.  He only says 'chemical' once, as an adjective for 'preservative', which is fine.  Processed foods aren't especially good for you, they're just convenient.  I say this as a lover of one of the early chemically preserved, processed foods.  I'm not gonna pretend it's better for me than having an apple.

In conclusion, smitty is troll whorin'.

Funny, I actually love raw potato.. not a whole one, but I'll eat the ends when I'm making french fries or a few cubes when making mashed potatoes.

But then, I'm weird like that. I could probably eat a supper of raw veggies and some good bread and be satisfied. Not all the time, of course..

I read that as I was eating a crown of broccoli for dessert after a generous portion of whole grain pasta. I have strange tastes.... 123 here I come!

But seriously, why would someone want to live to be that old in our society? You're just going to be viewed as someone's problem from 75 on, until you die. Perhaps it works in an inclusive, tribal setting....

When people act as though a longer life necessarily means aging at the same rate, but just hanging on lnoger when you're ultra feeble, I feel pretty confident in concluding that they're young.
