Now - if those had at least 1-2" of clotted cream on them instead, then we could talk.

I don't know why, but places that serve their food in cast iron skillets piss me off.  You can't bring the damn thing to the table fresh out of the oven because it would still be blazing hot, so it's clearly there for effect.

Indian restaurants here often serve food sizzling hot in cast iron pans, they arrive at the table with thick wooden platters under them.

I learned that I'm actually a good cook. Last week I made roasted chicken mixed with carrots and red potatoes. I mixed them all up in a bowl with Italian herbs, and veggie oil. It was so good.

The Chinese food thread beef marinade with cornstarch in the marinade was kind of a fail for me.

Other than that it was good.

Have we done food preserving yet?  It's getting that time of year...

Not that the mods ever listen to never-got-a-greenlight me, but I'd like to see a food thread focused on how to recover from kitchen disasters. If anyone has creative answers, it'll be the Fark culinary brigade.

/Too much salt in the soup? Some raw potato chunks will soak that up.
//Burned the damn rice again? Put a slice of bread on top and cover the pot. Wait one hour. The bread absorbs the burnt taste and the rice in the middle of the pot is fine.
///Got loaded too fast on the "cooking wine?" Turn off the stove and order pizza instead.

Mix together and stuff 8 (or more if you can) uncooked Mannicotti noodles with the following:

1/2 pound of mozzarella finely diced, 1/2 cup of ricotta, 2 slightly beaten eggs, 2 tablespoons grated Romano or Parmesan, 2 tablespoons soft butter, 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper, oregano, powdered garlic to taste

Lay them flat in a pan, pour on top of this a jar of your favorite tomato sauce (plainer the better-I like Aunt Millies-if you can find it) add a small can of tomato sauce and 1/4 cup of water. Sprinkle with more cheese. Cover. Bake at 350  45 minutes.

Have made this for years, courtesy of Peg Bracken's Appendix to The I Hate to Cook Book  (pg. 48) first published 1966

Things I've Learned From the Fark Food Threads:

The answer to bacon is always "yes"
It doesn't matter what I like to cook, someone hates it--and by extension me for reminding them it exists
The corollary to that, of course, is that the fresh seafood from MY region is superior to yours, and you should feel bad for thinking otherwise
Not every FFT goes green, which limits the entertainment value
I'd like to see a Fark Drink Thread, but folks get downright bent when their favorite labels are disrespected
There's always a way to enhance one of my recipes--every week I've picked up at least one new technique
The regional food thread was still the most hilarious I've seen in a long time

/There's more, but I'm supposed to look like I'm working...

2013-08-22 05:35:34 PM
Chickpeas.
And only thanks to a neighbour... they're my new favourite 'everything' of the last 12 months. I've had them in a curry, turned into a burger and as a spicy savoury snack. I don't doubt there are a million and one recipes that contain chickpeas that doesn't end up as hummous (even though I'd still eat it).

Step 1) Boil Water
Step 2) Pour water over ramen and add flavor packet
Step 3) buy beer with money you didn't waste on hipster foodie groceries

Step 1 1/2) Remove Ramen from package and place in bowl

I found this in the "What do you make for yourself that is quick and easy" thread. It's great and easy! I make it at least once every other week

Chili Dip
One can chili heated
Shredded cheese
Sour cream
Whatever hot sauce you like

Tried it with Sriachi, Taco Bell's Hot sauce, and Cholula. It's always grubbin!

I've only learned one thing from Fark food and drinking thread. I've learned that unless your drinking an obscure brewed by blind monks in alps beer your beer sucks. It seems beer threads alway turn into a pissing contest over beer choices

For instance, you can have chili con queso. But notice that doesn't have beans in it either.
