You want to sell that car?
Get it written into a James Bond smash-em-up car chase scene in the next Bond Flick and donate a hundred of them to the producer to smash up.

There I was under the impression that the Tata Nano was meant to be a (relatively) safe, family-friendly alternative to a motor scooter. Silly me.

I'd buy that car. Hell, I'd buy three. One for my own commute, and two to teach my (next four) student drivers.

Marketing something to the downtown crowd and calling it "smart" is akin to marketing something to teenage boys and calling it "masculine" or "alpha"

Sell it here in the States for under $3,000 and IT WILL SELL. It's not selling in India because Indians come in two flavors: Rich and too good for your car, and BROKE AS SHIAT and unable to afford it under any circumstances.

Sell it in the USA. Price it $2,199.99 and it will sell like hotcakes. You won't be able to keep up with demand. Even the most broke-ass Americans can manage to scrape up $2,200 with financing. Hell, homeless people would buy it to live in it (the payment per month would be cheaper than rent anywhere else, that's for sure).

I could use one. I have a full-size vehicle, but a nice tiny car to get me around town and save gas in the beast would be handy! Sell them here!!!

I had a Datsun 510 that probably had less safety features than this thing.  Sadly, rust proofing wasn't part of the package.  I'd gladly buy a car under $10,000 that was vaguely dependable.  My current driving habits don't really require air bags, anti lock brakes, and all of the other industry/government required training wheels.

Mr Mistry told Tata's annual shareholders meeting, in Mumbai, that new Nanos would include power steering options, an improved interior and exterior, be available in more colours, and have better fuel efficiency.

Looks like Tata will take ... these broken wings ... and learn to fly again ....

Emissions and safety equipment required on modern cars makes this impractical.  In fact, it would add about $4500 to the cost to produce.  That, plus shipping it overseas is likely to make the price comparable to something like the Ford Fiesta or Chevy Aveo/Spark.

Whatever it takes to get the stock back up. I was doing pretty good when it was up around $27, but now it's down about $22

The Tata needs only 0.25l of fuel to self-immolate.  A Caddy or Beemer needs at least 2+Litres.    (that's at least 5 gal for those who can't convert.)

Don't bother correcting my L --> gal conversion... remember I said it was for those who can't convert.  For those who can convert they will have done it in their heads even before I gave my conversion.  Also: I am a Cannuck so now you will have to guess as to whether I gave a bad USgal or ImpGal conversion.  Helen Keller told me what conversion factor to use.
