Adaptive optics is a very cool thing.  I just took a tour of the telescope which first used/invented the procedure.

Adaptive optics, like the one in the article, will eventually become cheap enough and small enough to make it to the consumer level. As an amatuer astrophotographer I do have access to adaptive optics but nothing like this.  Very cool.
