Yeah, I can't think of another current actor that women lust after as much as Benedict. I'm a straight male, and I *totally* understand. The guy is just sexy and charming.

Per my girlfriend who I just asked (we work together), "Benedict is cute, but Channing beats the pants off him...which is actually a very fun scenario to think about."

Ryan Gosling

Maybe I'd see the appeal if I were a woman, but Cumberbatch is awfully funny looking

Yeah, same thing in my household, especially with my 15-year-old daughter (and all her friends). I think he's a good actor and I understand that his voice is appealing, but to me he looks kinda weird. Maybe one has to be female to understand.

My daughter and her friends are also into Matt Smith. They should be commended for not being constrained by conventional ideas of male beauty.

Reason #1,021,954 why we will never understand women.  You can put Cumberbatch in that list, but I've yet to speak with a woman who doesn't get squirmy at the thought of an Alan Rickman and John Malkovich.  There are some banged-up looking dudes out there that could get laid 100 times before I could get a phone number.  And I look like awesome.

My daughter and your daughter have similar tastes, though mine prefers David Tennan's Doctor to Matt Smith's.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Matt Smith both have the same he-is-so-hot-except-when-he's-not-then-he's-just-weird-looking vibe going on, which fascinates me because that shift between hot to weird and back to hot sometimes happens moment to moment, often in the same scene.

And here's one of my favorite photos:

You know, the BBC *is* creating a crime-of-the-week CSI-style show... based around the Discworld Watch.

One has to wonder.

What's so hard to understand about men with beautiful voices? I had a professor for a comparative religion class at 8am in the morning who looked like a bearded road-apple. His voice, however, brought me in every morning to just bask in its baritone grandeur. I would've blown him for free, let alone extra marks. Ditto for Alan Rickman, Keith David, and Stephen Fry. Well, at least I know Stephen Fry might be up for it. He'd have to read the Silmarillion to me though.

So far all I've seen him in is the Star Trek movie. With all the fuss over him, I'm guessing he's much better in other things?

/the guy had me wishing they'd just resurrected Eric Bana's grumpy blue collar Romulan thug instead. Cumberbatch's baddie was surprisingly bland in comparison, though I've no doubt that was entirely the fault of bad scripting and direction, not the actor

I'll second that.  Look, I'm one of those contrary farks who hates the flavor of the moment because I'm an asshole and I read the first Harry Potter three years behind everyone else on purpose, just because I hate being told OMG I HAVE TO EXPERIENCE THIIS.

No, look.
