I'll give this entry an early lead in the "submitter who read no more than the article's headline" category.

Was she farking the other guy that that is the only way I have ever heard of women getting extravagant gifts from men?

Nothing to see here. Spouses taking the fall was what put Todd Palin in prison too. You do whatever you can to protect the breadwinner in the family and if that means lie and commit perjury to get them off the rap, so be it.

That's one big lady.  Does the governor's mansion have a crane?

Frank N Stein: Viginia?

Seriously, who mispells Virgina?

2013-08-22 09:10:44 AM
The event was arranged by the First Lady's office.

The First Lady's office? I don't recall voting for the First Lady, Bobbo (actually, I voted for Creigh "The Human Valium" Deeds), so anything she did was under the color of your office.

As I've said several times about our Governor, he is either an idiot or a liar. And he thinks we're all to dumb to notice.

"Anything Jonnie Williams did for Mrs. McDonnell and her family was done solely out of friendship, at least that's what she understood for her part," Burck told the Post. "If Jonnie Williams is telling the government something different, it can only be because he's willing to say anything to save himself from prosecution for other crimes."

Yes, that's how these things sometimes go.  Doesn't mean McDonnell is innocent.  It might mean Williams was offered a plea because Bob's the bigger fish.

Probably just in a rush to submit the headline and leave? Failure to check spellcheck? Maybe subby needed to watch more CNN coverage of Honey Boo Boo?

Or don't care.  If anything, they'll probably elect him to Congress as a reward.  Worked for Sanford.

I can feel the pain. Just bought a Scottish keyboard. It's started leaving out letters, has whiskey for breakfast.

It's just a bad angle. Her official portrait is a much better representation.

At the same time, the governor's wife, Maureen McDonnell, has received increasing attention for her role in the scandal, while the governor and his team have taken to drawing bright lines between his actions and hers.

If you've got to throw your wife under the bus, it might be time to just resign and move on.

I'm sure Virginia's First Lady will have no objection should the state decide to probe much deeper into this.

And yet, for some reason, McDonnell still has a 47% approval rating.

It's for her own good, really.  It will give her all the information she needs to decide whether to keep lying or abort and answer to the charges.

The two largest newspapers in Virginia have called on him to resign. The Washington Post has toed right up to that line, but hasn't quite crossed over yet. The FBI is very, very close to indicting him on corruption charges- they had all day meetings with McDonnell's lawyers (as well as his wife's separate legal team- read into that what you will).

You not caring does not make it less important.

And a person "familiar with the investigation" has told the newspaper that Bob McDonnell's legal team has told authorities that the first lady kept the governor in the dark about Williams' gifts.

You expect us to believe that she was getting hundreds of thousands in gifts, including paying for their daughters wedding, and she didn't tell her husband?  Really?

I can almost see that making sense.  When money grows on trees for you, maybe you just stop asking questions -, even for big ticket items.  Doesn't really matter legally - you're required to know the rules regarding "gifts."
