Mike Tyson's Punch Out had a numerical based code system so the konami code wouldn't do a damn thing.

couldn't you hit select quickly between rounds one time per match and your health would recover almost fully or am I thinking of another game?

Top 5 NES game of all time. I still play it every few months on my pc.

I thought so, too, so I went back and looked, that one was a quick interview with Tyson by TMZ where he said he sucked at the game. This is the one where he's playing, so I left it alone.

No, you're right. That's pretty much the only useful thing that Doc Louis ever did.

the only time you should lose to Glass Joe is if you're using the power glove......It's so bad. No really, it is.

Kid Lester: MagicBoris: Well, to be fair, it's not like he could magically figure out on his first try, without anyone explaining the basics of the game to him, that there's a dodge-punch-punch-punch-punch pattern to follow and that the only way to get out of purple-fatigue mode is to dodge (also, the whole uppercut/star thing).

Man, Puch-Out still is an awesome game, and to this day I still haven't beaten Tyson/Mr Dream...

I had the original Tyson game back in the late 80's/early 90's. I was able to beat Tyson about 1/3 of the time after playing it religiously for weeks. We downloaded the game to the Wii about a year ago, and in fact were drinking and playing it last night for about 3 hours. I will never beat Mr. Dream, I don't think. Don't have that kind of time anymore. But damn if that game isn't just as much fun getting up and through Macho Man as it was 20 years ago.

I have the downloaded version, and I also have the rom to the original MT version with an emulator on my Wii... And you're right, it's still just as fun as it was back then.

Hell, that's one of the main reasons I have a Wii, hacked it to have tons of emulators on it (not to mention storing my disc-based games on an external HDD so I don't have to disc-swap)... Play all the old school stuff on my TV without worrying about stuff dying on me.

Saborlas: Getting his ass kicked by GLASS JOE. That is SAD.

/Glass Joe is a pun on Glass Jaw
//as in, an EASY boxing opponent
///Mikey got his ass kicked by the TUTORIAL opponent

Well granted he was trying to use the NES controller like a Wii controller at first, so methinks 30 year old gaming technology isn't in his skill set.

I beat Tyson when I was like, 10.  I got the virtual console version on the Wii a while ago, and care barely beat Sandman.  I guess my reflexes aren't what they once were.

You're gonna get a few bites with that

Based on his comments in other threads I think he's serious.

Now I am curious, which of my comments led you to believe I was serious?

Probably other cases where you successfully trolled them.

I think I was about 6 or 7 when my older brother got the Tyson version for Christmas, and I wasn't good enough at video games yet to get very far. In fact, this thread reminded me how much Bald Bull actually scared me back then. I have memories of beating Great Tiger, then just turning off the console.

Years later, I got an emulator, and ...

Also, that game was the main reason I ever bought Animal Crossing for the Gamecube. Sure, I had to cheat to get the NES games, but it was worth it just to play Punch-Out* in my living room again instead of in front of my computer.

(*and Excitebike)

Excitebike was awesome. I haven't checked in awhile, but last time I looked Nintendo wasn't offering the original Contra for download. Only Contra3. I need to get f*cking Contra, and for that cheat to still work.

Yep, you could regain some of it.  Doc would rub your shoulder faster...kinda like a Dutch Rudder.

Nana's Vibrator: 1.  This is a repeat from over a week ago
2.  facisto: For the rest of my life I'll never forget that code.

I was able to take that Tyson punk out in the first round.  That's what we did back then.  We played the same game 1000+ times and tried to get a faster time (or higher score, depending on the game).

Yep, pretty much.  With Super Mario I used to play it 1-1 > 1-4 , 2-1 > 2-4 all the way through 8-4 w/o any of the warps.  If i died once I would reset the game and start over.  I would also time myself on how fast I could do it.

I remember being at a friends house few years back and some of the boys around 11-12ish dug a nintendo out of a closet and were trying to get it working.  They had it all hooked up properly but when they put in the game it just wouldnt load.  I state "I will show you how this thing works".  Walked over to it.  Open the front lid.  Blew in it a few times.  Slid the game into it at "just the right spot" and pushed down to get the slight grinding sound.  Smacked the right side a few times and bam first start it loaded right up.

God I miss that old console :)

Woah, that made me remeber this fake Punch-Out movie trailer, which I had completely forgotten about.

(The one they did for Contra was better though).

In addition to the Tyson code 005-737-5423 was the other code that got you about 3/4 though the game.

Just like the Konami code and "Justin Bailey"  they are burned into my brain.

You actually remember one of the number code sequences?

There is probably a folder of my old stuff from when I was younger that has pages of codes in them from games.  That and hand drawn maps on graph paper.

I remember that same code.  Spent HOURS playing MT Punchout with a friend of mine and when we FINALLY made it to Tyson, we had no pen/pencil nor paper.  Thus, we memorized it and, over 25 years later, it's still embedded in my brain (like the Konami code).

My sister, my former friend, and I all have a random Crash Bandicoot passcode memorized because of lacking paper.

That code is so imbedded in my brain from childhood, that in the past, I've accidentally started to write it on job applications and tax forms instead of my SSN.
