I think the intricate patterns in my excrement after partaking of a fifth of jack and one grand slam at Dennys has more flavor, color, and artistic merit than this schlock will have.

Apparently Jon Snow also knows volcanoes.

I predict this film will capture startling details of 1st century Roman life.

My first thought is it's Titanic without the boat.

Hmmmmm - big, budget epic that is apparently being released right during the thick of Oscar week, when moviegoers tend to spend their money on seeing the films nominated for Oscars.....and then said film can be blamed for lack of box office not on it's suckiness, but on getting 'drowned out' by the Oscar flicks.

I think the Studio PTB have sent their 'review' on this just by it's scheduling.

There were so many Darkhorse comics they could've picked from to make a coherent (i.e. interesting) plot. Instead they went derp and ruined it for everyone.

I've seen Kit in two things
GOT, in which he does an excellent job of portraying a guy completely overwhelmed by everything around him and comes of as awkward and wooden which works for Jon being thrust into the NW as a boy and the later adventures he is seasoned with.
And Silent Hill, in which he does an excellent job of portraying a guy completely overwhelmed by everything around him and comes of as awkward and wooden which just contributed to the overall awfulness of the movie.
Still, Gladiators AND a volcano?  Can't fark that up.

I honestly don't understand this movie.  At least with Titanic you have a long scene with the boat sinking where people can act in heroic/loving/cravenly ways.

What happens here?  You get a backstory about some forbidden love and then a volcano erupts, killing everyone in seconds before they have time to react?  I had thought ash suffocation did it, but checking Wikipedia it appears current theories is that the heat did them in instantly

I suppose you could have people arguing about warnings and portents, but in the end everything goes boom in seconds.

Made up story based on actual events with good effects... pass the popcorn.

however I must add, it will still pale in compairson when you go through the real thing.

Very much agreed. Darkhorse knew how to write those stories well. I mainly picked the first series because there were some specific points in the movie that was plucked from this series (I specifically recall the scene at the end when Broken Tusk marked the female lead with the Alien blood).

Of course, once they got to AvPvTerminator, it kinda lost me....

I argue that the film had all the right elements but was just poorly executed, right down to the glaringly obvious rubber suits for the predators.

By Jupiter's Beard, I pray the soundtrack does not include any more music like that. Dis Pater wept.

We're currently choosing to ignore the fact that it comes from the director of Mortal Kombat and Alien Vs Predator.

Hey now, we can most definitely fault him for AvP, but Mortal Kombat was one of the few video-games-turned-movies that was actually good.

At this point I think you almost need to do a movie with Mondo because the Alien universe could use a genre shift into horror/action-comedy. There's really no other good place to take it.

A lot of people either escaped or died slowly by suffocation or were buried alive. It wasn't nearly as quick as you seem to think. And hundreds of people escaped by ship at the last moment (or didn't escape and died by the docks). Rescue attempts and ships were immediately dispatched to help save people as soon as the volcano started erupting.

It was well made, well coreographed, stayed true to the plot of the video game while taking some liberties to expand the mythos, and is widely regarded as one of the few successful adaptations.

Of course this does not apply to the sequel, which was a true abortion.

I will stand with this good man and defend Mortal Kombat.  Movie wins just for the Johnny Cage nutpunch and most other Johnny Cage one liners.

I liked Postal too. So many people shiat on Uwe but Postal was true to the source and he has done two enjoyable movies now with Assault on Wall Street.

Damn I think this is kinda cool given that the first film epic was released 100 years ago on the same theme.

The Last Days of Pompeii = less camera movement, CGI, more cardboard + handtinting

Maybe someone survives in a refrigerator.

It could be a seriously awesome movie if they paid attention to detail. Yes, there was a gladiator school in Pompeii and they all liked the freaky deaky sex Etruscean style. There was a pregnant woman found preserved as well. Lots of people lost time loading themselves up with gold and missed ships that came, although there weren't many of those, and they burned or drowned.

But they'll probably mess it up with chariots or some such crap.
