(WAFF Huntsville)   My dad got arrested for having lunch with me at my middle school. So what if Dad was drunk, carrying gun under his shirt? That's just like supper at home all the time   (waff.com) divider line 28

When I was a kid in elementary school, one of the kid's fathers showed up, walked in a side door directly into the classroom.  He sat down drunk off his ass and puked on the carpet and passed out.

Ah, childhood memories.

Hopefully they can find a felony to convict him of so that he can never own a gun again.

DarkSoulNoHope: Question, what are kids doing back to school in August?

Schools start earlier in the south, and get out earlier for summer break.

It all evens out in the end.  They don't have to worry about snow days, and at least the district around here tends to give longer breaks during the year.  They do a week off for Thanksgiving and two weeks for Christmas, up north I remember getting two days for Thanksgiving and Christmas break usually started on Christmas eve and ended the day after New Years.

DarkSoulNoHope: Question, what are kids doing back to school in August?

It's been answered, but it sucks.  I just graduated from college (again) this summer, and I wanted to take a trip to celebrate.  However, my last final was on Monday the 5th, commencement was on the night of Thursday the 8th, and my son started school Monday the 12th.  I would've skipped graduation except I was getting a special award.  So, we left town after the final and packed some fun into Tuesday and Wednesday and got back Thursday afternoon.  Some vacation, but better than nothing.  Fortunately I have a job lined up, but instead of enjoying myself while my background check and drug tests are read, I'm getting up early and driving junior to school until work starts.

It's breakfast, lunch, and supper. Then dinner is whichever of the latter two is the largest meal of the day.

You might like this: 360 Degrees.  It's a collaboration between an English electronica band called The Propellerheads (they were features in a ton of movie soundtracks in the late '90s/early '00s) and De La Soul.  As far as I can tell it never quite broke into the mainstream, but it's a neat track.

Whoops, nevermind, that's entirely in the wrong thread.

Aside from the other answers, there is also year-round school as well.

Sorry, I guess my sarcasm snark was off. I'm fully aware of the meal referred to as supper.   It's common some places, and not used in other parts of the country.

You must be very un-traveled.

I am fairly well traveled and know people will call soft drinks "pop" or "coke" or "soda". I also know when a dick tries to act like Charles Emerson Winchestor and is above knowing what "supper" is.

Carrying while intoxicated and possessing a concealed weapon in a "gun-free zone" are typically both felonies.  Results may vary by state.

Since a certain family member by marriage just lost his license last week due to ceasing his meds and showing up hammered to pick up his daughter (fortunately the school caught him), I am not getting a kick out of this =/ - I suppose I should be grateful there wasn't a firearm involved. I suppose I'd best never let him have access to mine.

Frankly I've done some stupid drunk stuff, but never quite in that league, which is highly unusual for him.

The school my sister teaches at goes year round with short breaks several times, kind of how they do it in Japan. Apparently it works a lot better for retention.

Well you let me know when you find that dick.   I was simply making a joke.

Schools start earlier in the South in preparation for having to close the school for up to a week at a time. The early school days are commonly referred to as "hurricane days."

Is that how it works? I always thought dinner and supper were just two words for the same meal... And, I always thought my grandmother was simply wrong because she always calls lunch dinner... But, maybe she's been right all along!

By Merriam-Webster at least:

supper 1a : the evening meal especially when dinner is taken at midday
dinner 1a : the principal meal of the day

I expect though, that real life use varies by region like coke/soda/pop.

I like how some people think dinner and supper are the same thing.

I also like how some people think a cock is a rooster.

Ain't English funny that way?  Different words referring to different things depending upon which different place one was raised in the same country....

Here in Georgia carrying while intoxicated isn't illegal but shooting while intoxicated is. Unless it's in self defense.

In North Carolina it's illegal to carry with any alcohol in your system. And if you have any interaction with police (even saying "good morning") and you're carrying you are required to tell them you're carrying.

I almost always carry a gun. Because carrying a Marine would be too heavy.

I work with an ex-Marine who weighs about 80 pounds (she's short, too).
