Lett's should be more in the middle of the pack since they didn't lose the game because of it. Although I'm sure there's plenty of people that lost money gambling on the game that would disagree

Lett's fark up is #1?  This list appears legit.

Wouldn't that have been the highest score for a Super Bowl if he'd made it?

DeSean Jackson has to be one of the dumbest farkers to ever put on a uniform.  Maybe Chip Kelly can teach him about the concept of a goal line this summer.

Not a premature celebration, but this is one of my all time favorite football brainfarts.

Considering the fact that the Super Bowl has been the single most-watched program on television for decades, it deserves to be either 1 or 2 simply because the entire country (and a large part of the rest of the world) saw him fark up live and in living color. The only thing on this list that rivals it is The Play.

Lindsey Jacobellis hot dogs her way to silver

I remember that one.

2013-08-21 05:38:52 PM
Another good one, can't find a link (it was on Youtube at one point) was in NASCAR's Busch (now Nationwide) series... back when races could end on caution laps, Mark Martin was in the lead and went to victory lane one lap before the finish.

Dwayne Rudd sacks the QB to end the game and takes off his helmet to celebrate.
QB has actually slipped the ball out to a receiver who races up the field and is put out of bounds at 0.00
Removing helmet is an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty because the game wasn't over.
Can't end the game on a defensive penalty - so there's one zero time down left
Except the ball is now in field goal range
Game over

Ladies and Gentlemen - your Cleveland Browns

Jacobellis needs to be higher because it was the damn Olympics and you don't get a hell of a lot of shots at those.

Can put Jackson lower only because the refs didn't notice it either until the replay and so the Cowboys didn't get the ball back - Philly just scored on the next play.

/though it certainly pissed me off in FFB since I had Jackson and my opponent had Westbrook

2013-08-21 06:11:03 PM
I also like from the 2004 (I think) ALCS, Yankess vs. Red Sox, where we were in game 4, bottom of the 9th, Yankees had a small lead, I think the Sox were down to their last batter.  Yankees were cheering, celebrating, hanging out their brooms for the sweep, shaking up the champagne bottles and basically mocking the Sox. And then the Sox broke them.  And then they were driven before the Sox, wailing, gnashing of teeth, lamentations etc.

It was glorious if only because of the hubris of NYY.

And why would I do that?  Reading is for losers.

Marcus Aurelius: DeSean Jackson has to be one of the dumbest farkers to ever put on a uniform.  Maybe Chip Kelly can teach him about the concept of a goal line this summer.

The worst part about that whole scenario is that the Eagles got to keep possession of the ball and Westbrook banged it in the next play.

Peter von Nostrand: Lett's should be more in the middle of the pack since they didn't lose the game because of it. Although I'm sure there's plenty of people that lost money gambling on the game that would disagree

Not sure how many people would have lost money.

Cowboys covered the spread
Over under was 45
There were 2  fumbles returned for a touchdown by Dallas.

I guess someone could have bet "Leon Lett returns a fumble for a touchdown" at 50,000:1 odds.

2013-08-21 06:22:53 PM
FTFA: ...except that Dro filed an appeal and won, meaning that the game was to be replayed.

That was a goal, fair and square.  You shouldn't get to appeal because you're an idiot.  Or is this just another example of how soccer is coorupt?

I had the numbers on a super bow pot to win that quarter had he scored and they kicked the extra point. $500 bucks or so.

2013-08-21 06:53:53 PM
Haha, on #2 you can see the losing coach frantically gesturing to his team to play defense, then start yelling what has to be "what the fark were you doing" at them.

That's not really a premature celebration though.  He wasn't fist pumping or showing off, he just f'd up.

One that always comes to mind is LSU @ Kentucky from like 2002.  Not sure if it should bump anything from the list, just one that I always think off when this sort of thing comes up.

The final score was 52-17, the TD (and presumably the PAT) would have made it 59-17.  Who the hell had a pointspread, between 35 and 42, that swung this game one way or the other?!?!?!

Even as a Cowboys fan I think Lett belongs at the top or top 3. They were the hottest shiat on the planet at the time and everyone was watching.

My brother won 3 of the 4 quarters on a tip board at work with that game. If Lett had scored he would have only gotten 2.

There was a Desmond Howard kick/punt return where he tossed the ball early. Not called though, so he got the TD, but I can remember frame-by-framing some VHS tape back in the day to see that he let the ball go at about the 2. Anyone know that play? He was returning from the right side of the screen to the left, that's all I can remember, and I want to say it was Michigan and not the NFL. Who knows.
