serial_crusher: Performance.

Then it will be slower, or Facebook can pull out of Brazil.

Frankly, given the modern reality of Corporate ownership of politicians, one of the best things people outside the US can do to put an end to international NSA abuses is boycott American internet companies and develop their own local alternatives.

When Facebook, Google, Apple, et al. start losing massive amounts of money, they will bring their pet politicians to heel.

I'm sure the gross misuse of extraordinary powers supposedly to be used only in the name of preventing terrorism against one of their citizens didn't have anything to do with this at all.

On the good side, we now have all the ammo we need to prove that the Patriot Act in the US and even worse acts in the UK need to be repealed.

"We have concerns with the [possible] changes, such as requiring the maintenance of data in Brazil," said Bruno Magrani, head of public policy at Facebook Brazil, according to the report. "This requirement would entail huge costs and inefficiencies in online business in the country, it will impact small and new technology companies that want to provide services to Brazilians."

Then maybe, just maybe, you should have struggled a little bit when the NSA was raping your data farm.

This is just getting started.
