"The committee's resolution, which accuses Hunter and local legislators of a "dereliction of duty", passed by a vote of 25 to 12."
"I think it's more about power and personality than it is actually about an issue," said Ball.
Long-time Republican activist Tom Scovill abruptly quit his position as managing editor of the Tennessee Valley Republican Club after the vote, which he said served as the last straw.

Please proceed....

Oh for Fark's sake.  Either they're too arrogant or too stupid to hide it any more.  Seriously, why does anyone vote Republican any more?  They're a goddamn embarrassment to the country.

That said, it's also getting pretty entertaining, watching the GOP meltdown from a safe distance in Canada.

Basically you have a "party committee" wanting to dictate to the legislature which laws they want approved and which laws they do not, screw what the people in the districts want. Isn't that how communist countries do it? Everything has to be approved by the party's leaders before it can be voted into law.

These anti-common core people are just a bunch of anti-government conspiracy nuts. They present hypothetical worse case scenarios trying to scare people to their side with no tangible evidence showing their scenarios have ever happened. When you break it down past the "derp", the only reason they oppose the common core curriculum is that it prevents them on a local level from using political pressure to force their ideology into the schools' course of study.

As an Alabama Democrat, it would be awesome to watch the state's Republican Party split between the "crazies" an dthe "moderates". In many ways it's our only hope of not becomming "Northern Florida". For all intents and purposes we are already "Mississippi East" thanks to our GOP overlords.

I know Mary Scott, and while our politics are different, she's a smart, principled, capable woman. I like her quite a lot.

It's not even remotely surprising to me that the Limbaugh-loving shiatheads who control the GOP in this state would RINO her for not being sufficiently psychotic.

This only became true four years ago.  Up till that time, the legislature was majority (D).

You let Nancy Worley and Joe Reed get in positions of power and now you're not even fielding candidates in local races that were competitive only a couple of years ago.  It doesn't look like you're going to contest many (if any) of the executive offices in 2014 and the (R) secretary of state just chose to ignore the qualifying deadlines set out in state law so you could get a candidate on the ballot in the 1st congressional district special election.  You missed those deadlines because you party chair ignored numerous e-mail notices and then lied about it until presented with undeniable evidence.

You aren't irrelevant, you are dead and it was a suicide.

The state's Democratic Party is just a bunch of pathetic politicians trying to hold on to what's left of their diminished power base and get what's theirs. Doing anything more might anger the Republicans and stop their gravy train.

It really is and the amazing thing is how fast the transition happened.  In less than a decade, it went from holding both houses of the legislature, half the statewide offices, a good number of judgeships, and the overwhelming majority of local offices to absolutely nothing.  It really is starting to look like they might not field a candidate in the freaking Governor's race.  At it's lowest point, the (R)s always had someone on the ballot for the big offices.

I'm a conservative, but it isn't good for one side to be so dominant.  The corruption that was so widespread when the (D)/AEA coalition ran the state house will return in rapid fashion without a meaningful opposition party.

Maybe Mark Kennedy's group can get something going, but I doubt it.  As long as the 'blame whitey and keep my money and votes coming' crowd continues to control the minority vote, you're not going to win anywhere outside of west Alabama, Birmingham, and Montgomery.

It's the new and socially acceptable racism. Conservatives, and particularly white southern republicans don't seem to be able to get over the massive butthurt of America actually electing and then reelecting a black man to the White House.

They aren't going to, either.

And they're going to be just as butthurt when the split-tail carpet-bagger takes over his job.
