Sometimes, it's impossible to feel sorry for someone's untimely death.  This is one of those times.

Living and dieing exercising a fulfilling life isn't a tragedy.  I bet he "lived" more in his 47 years than most on fark will live in their lifetime.

Rescuers said Mario Richard died Monday after launching himself from a thousand-metre peak near Bolzano.

Looks like he forgot he could double-jump to avoid fall damage.

You know...I, I just can't be sorry. I'm a bad person and I should feel bad. But...why did you BASE jump? shiat, I've been doing all kinds of things that should have killed me by now, but unfortunately, I'm still here.

Btw, death is a myth.

Well, he got attention.

I just knew that was dangerous.

They know the risks.  Not sure why this is sad. The guy apparently loved doing this and to me that would be a good way to go out....doing what you like.

I'm not sure what to say when people claim "He died doing what he loved."  I'll bet that he didn't love crashing into a cliff because he miscalculated his jump.

Back in college, I had a group of friends who would get together and play DnD.  Between campaigns or just if we wanted to include our girlfriends, we'd have a crappy movie night.  I'd seen Dolomite back in the late '90s so I brought that.  Classic.  Everyone loved it so much we got our hands on Dolomite 2.  1 was so bad it was good, 2 was so bad it did a 540 from bad to good to bad to worse.  Terrible.

"Freedom" includes some hobbies that might be dangerous. Every time we regulate such pursuits to make them safe (or illegal), it undermines the human spirit.

It makes me sad to read of his death. But at least it wasn't on the Soarin' ride at EPCOT.

One of my professors was a mountain climber. She set a record as the first woman to climb a mountain in the Dolomites (perhaps several, if I recall correctly). She fell off of one of the Dolomites, 100 feet, and was in casts for months.

She was tough though. As a child, during WWII, she went out to play after a bombardment and found the head of a little playmate in the street. She ran down the street with the head gathered in her skirt.

One of her ancestors was one of Napoleon's military right hand men, the famous Maréchel de Ney:

He looks like a tough little guy also.

I flew AirDolomiti over Bolzano recently.

The flight attendants actually looked like these models. Every single one I saw.

Why is doing something like BASE jumping (or any other extreme sport) considered "living more"? If you like it, that's farking great, but doesn't mean people who don't are somehow living less. Get over yourself.

/dude went out with a splat. Sucky, really.

Hope he didn't have any young children that he knew of.

Cause, like dude, like, you aren't doing the knarly kick ass shiat I'm doing man.  So, like, you must just sit at home on your couch and cry every night casue you, like, aren't living dude.

/I agree, BASE jumping is a hobby, we all have hobbies, yours isn't "better" than mine.

Falling hasn't killed anyone.
Sudden stops do.

an argument could be made that some people have had heart attacks from falling...so they would of been dead before impact

Well, it beats being killed in a freak plumbing accident while trying to unclog a nasty bunged up toilet. Unless you love unbunging toilets. But yeah, it's a bit silly. Would I rather die young while cycling or die old from cancer or something? I think I will take old, thanks very much.

It's sad in a way that this guy bought it but he very much put himself in harm's way so it's not exactly an unexpected tragedy.

Depends on your definition of living.

/The dead know only one thing, it is better to be alive.

I would rather die that way than laying in a hospice dying of cancer.  But that could be just me.

If I had to choose how I died, it would be at 90 and by a much younger jealous husband/boyfriend.

So you are saying their heart suddenly stopped?

Well, if you enjoy sitting naked in your mother's basement, cheeto stains on your left hand, dick stains on your right, then I guess you're living too.
