Perry health aides are negotiating with the Obama administration on the terms of an optional Obamacare program that would allow Texas to claim stepped-up Medicaid funding for the care of people with disabilities.

Double Secret Obamacare!
That doesn't sound very bootstrappy, Texas.

They got away with it over stimulus funds, and they'll get away with it now.  Why?  Because black trumps hypocrisy and duplicitousness.

There's a move afoot to change the Texas slogan from "Don't Mess with Texas" to "Texas, the land of Whoppertunity."

No, the information itself clearly bears out that Texas is being a douchebag (of course speaking about the gov't, not the state). Playing it off as "nuance" is transparently silly.

Don't you guys remember during the GOP debates when Perry was going on and on about the merits of ACA and would increase medicare and help 12,000 additional poor families?

Texas doesn't have a superior state solution for those people?  If it's a bad idea, it's a bad idea.  Tyranny allows for no exceptions.

"Long before Obamacare was forced on the American people, Texas was implementing policies to provide those with intellectual disabilities more community options to enable them to live more independent lives, at a lower cost to taxpayers,"

Hell, Long before Obamacare, Texas was implementing policies to elect those with intellectual disabilities to the governor's mansion.

You know, the ACA allows states to come up with their own proposals that provide the same level of coverage, and implement those in place of the federal law. What's Gov. Perry's plan, other than to be a total douche?

From the article(poor grammar is the author's)

Perry's anti-Obamacare purism has helped shape his national persona. He's has called the law a "monstrosity" and taken steps to block Texas's participation in some optional components. So his decision to embrace an element of the law, even though he has the support of his state's Republican Legislature, could present a messaging challenge on a bigger stage.
Advocates for the disabled said the governor is doing the right thing.

What a douche!

One line of thinking as to why the Texas governor, who has honed his national image in no small measure by denouncing Obamacare, would make such a seemingly inconsistent move goes like this: Treating disabled and elderly people is less politically charged than a sweeping national law forcing people to buy health insurance.

Then do it on your own. You know... the 'right' way since Obamacare is so wrong. I hope the administration tells Perry to go fark himself.

s2s2s2: Wait, you are upset and confused by a nuanced view on Obamacare because "TEXASS"?

If Obamacare is so bad while helping the disabled elderly is so good, perhaps Perry and Texas should do it on their own instead of asking for funds from the law they hate so much and refuse to participate in except for the 'we get money' part.

No, he wants more money quietly dispensed to his state under the old program so that he can continue to loudly b#tch that the new program isn't necessary. Once again, GOP, it's the hypocrisy that's so galling about you.

I don't have a problem with his trying to help the elderly and disabled. I'm SUCH a republican!

Don't hurt yourself trying to sort it out. Just put me in a tidy little "if he doesn't hate everything every republican does, he's a GOP shill" box that helps keep the clutter in your mind to a minimum.

The point is, he wants the 100 million distributed through the state's Medicaid system, so he can tell the voters that it's "not-Obamacare" (even though it clearly IS).

Your refusal to acknowledge the circumstances under which he wants to do this is what exposes you as GOP/conservative/libertarian/Fark Independent.  The story and this thread is about Perry's hypocrisy over denouncing the law while trying to get funds via that law. The reason why wants the funds is completely irrelevant.

Me too. In fact, he should tell every Republican governor that there will be no Obamacare funds or facilities in their states. It would save the treasury a lot of money.
