You know what's silly, Ted? That you'll run for president in 2016

/seriously, why is 2016 the year where everyone who got elected in 2012/2014 making a bid to quit early and run for president?
//looking at you Walker and Christie

FTFA:

"A significant amount of Republicans assume, with an impasse, that President Obama will never ever ever give up his principles, so Republicans have to give up theirs," Cruz said. "If you have an impasse, you know - one side or the other has to blink. How do we win this fight? Don't blink."

Cruz downplayed the effects of a potential government shutdown over Obamacare, saying that the last time the government experienced "a temporary suspension of non-essential federal government spending," the military kept functioning and Social Security checks were distributed.

Yep, that's the silliest thing I've heard this week.

Speaking to CNN's Candy Crowley for next Sunday's "State of the Union," the Texas Republican said he's an American citizen and whether he's eligible to run for president should be left to the experts.

I agree.  Where are Taitz, Corsi, Arpaio, and Trump?

Maybe now that they're faced with an actual foreign birth certificate, they'll shut their pie holes.

Are people listening to this guy only because 1) his ideas are certifiable 2) he's probably running for president 3) he may or may not be Canadian?

This is a guy who has said publicly he won't compromise with the other side. F*ck him, he might as well be a Canadian. Let's talk about the people in our House and Senate who are willing to step forward and work with their colleagues, not some douchenozzle who's under the thumb of the plutocracy.

If there's one principle that's been the hallmark of successful statesmen over the past 200 years, it's "NEVAR COMPROMISE!11!"

/Whar birf certicft Rafael eh?

1. I was speaking to Ted Cruz's supporters and Ted Cruz indirectly
2. It wasn't an Old English sentence, it was a Modern English sentence, and you really should learn about what "est" really is.

Oh, what I think is even better is that Ted's dad fought for Castro during the Revolution.  I am stunned by the silence over that one.

I love how this is the new language for a government shutdown. The Democrats should enumerate what these things are and shout loudly that this is what Republicans consider 'non-essential'.

It is 100% OK his dad says he had no idea Castro was a Commie.  So everybodies fine with that

Essential Government Spending:
- The Military.
- Social Security (only as long as old folk keep reliably voting Republican.
- Congressional Salaries
- Pork that goes to my state

Non-Essential Government Spending
- Everything else.

Is it just me, or is all the speculation for the GOP purely as to whether or not a given candidate will win the primary, while the Democrat speculation is all about the actual election chances?

If this meant Cruz, Rubio, and Paul would actually quit the Senate...

Yea, I think that goes without saying, but without listing what "everything else" is, a lot of people might think "oh well, we're still being protected and getting paid... at least they aren't paying $10,000 for a hammer for a little while".  Dems should nip that language in the bud and everytime they refer to a government shutdown, they should mockingly point out that it is not "just" a "temporary....whatever" because of A, B, C, etc. Get quotes like that in the media every single day by multiple sources.

Reducing governing the most powerful nation on the planet to the macho posturing of, "Don't Blink!" Perfect distillation of the "No Compromise! Never Surrender! La-la-la can't hear you!" strategy of the NuGOP and made to order for the low-information voter.
