(_:(|)MMMMMMMMMMM Tripas

Yummy

Chit'lins are pig intestines. Tripas are completely different, because they are cow intestines.

So my sesos are still okay to eat?

I know it as tripe. Which is what it is in english. Which I speak. English-motherfarker-can-you-speak-it?

Hmm, come to think of it, I haven't had any since I was young. I recall it being quite savory and tasty. And now, thanks to this article, I'm getting a craving. Damn!

lordargent, so the internet is an entirely English speaking entity? There are countries outside of the US, you know.

Rottenassdan: lordargent, so the internet is an entirely English speaking entity? There are countries outside of the US, you know.

Last I checked, South Texas was in the US. Unless they tried to secede again. And the ban is a USDA ban.

I'm just being facetious, as usual. Perhaps you didn't recognize where that quote comes from.

In other news, I think I've just discovered another aspect of the Fark filter.

If your string of colored text is too short, it removes the coloring.

I suppose this is to prevent people from doing rainbow text. Interesting. (starts thinking of how to do that in perl).

Rottenassdan: besides, according to your profile, you're up in the windy city, round here, I get to see the effects of illegal immigration first hand.

Nothinng like trying to communicate with someone in an emergency situation, and not being able to understand a damn word they're saying.

Has no problem with people until they do something stupid.

2004-01-12 09:39:41 PM
lordargent: The same goes for many other HTML tags. If you try to bold or italicize a 1- or 2-letter word, it strips the tags.

lordargent, being an Irish/Italian from Chicago, you know I had to take exception. Didn't remember the line from the movie, so obviously I was talking out of my ass.

exick: yeah, now that I recall, I've seen it happen before, but I just chalked it up to me screwing up the HTML or something.

Funny thing is that the preview will show it fine.

Rottenassdan: Didn't remember the line from the movie, so obviously I was talking out of my ass.

Besides, who am I to talk, I was born on a damn island (not even a state). That's a stones throw away from Puerto Rico.

Anyway, as far as language/immigration and the like are concerend, there's another thread around here for all of that.

In other news Pepto Bismol surrenders they were damn tasty if I remember corerctly, nothing like the pig innards. There's probably a reason for that (to steal another quote here).

"Pigs sleep and root in shiat. That's a filthy animal. I ain't eat nothin' that ain't got enough sense to disregard its own faeces."

nasty, however menudo is a great hangover cure.

"lordargent

With all due respect,
Tripas is NOT tripe. Tripe is used in menudo and is the stomache lining of a cow.
As far as the chitlins being from a cow and not a pig, I was mistaken. I always thought they came from cows but I was wrong.

ImDracula: Tripas is NOT tripe. Tripe is used in menudo and is the stomache lining of a cow.

I assumed tripas was some sort of alternate/spanish spelling of tripe.

I couldn't find tripas in the dictionary.
Google had this to say.

Did you mean: "what is tripe"
No standard web pages containing all your search terms were found. Your search - "what is tripas" - did not match any documents.

I feel like I did my due diligence as far as a comment meant to be humorous goes.

Cow intestines??? Jeeeezusss! Don't nobody EVER call us New Englander weird because we got a thing for clams.

2004-01-12 10:55:26 PM
According to http://www.wordreference.com this is the definition of Tripas

tripa sustantivo femenino
1 (= intestino) intestine; gut
(= vsceras) guts (informal); insides (informal); innards (informal)
me duele la tripa I have a stomach ache
quitar las tripas a un pez to gut a fish
MODISMO:hacer de tripas corazn to pluck up courage
MODISMO:echar las tripas (= vomitar) to retch; vomit violently
MODISMO:revolver a alguien las tripas to turn somebody's stomach
2 (Espaa) (informal) (= barriga)2.1 (generalmente) belly; tummy (informal)
echar tripa to put on weight; start to get a paunch
2.2 [de embarazada] bulge

3 las tripas (informal) (= mecanismo) the insides (informal); the works
(= piezas) the parts

I find it interesting that tripas can refer to the gut or stomach. Although tripas do not come from the stomach, lordargent was right to assume that the word is familial to tripe. Tripe is from the stomach and tripas are in fact from the guts or intestine but not the stomach.

I hear that in Virginia they eat hog's brains and call it Saus.

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

I'll stick with the intestines.

ImDracula: tripas are in fact from the guts or intestine but not the stomach

I also always assumed that the stomach was included in "guts". According to dictionary.com

"1. The alimentary canal or a portion thereof, especially the intestine or stomach."

Anyway, I love playing around with words and word meanings.

I still remember the day that someone tried to tell me I was spelling draconic wrong and that it should be draconian.

(if you look up the definition of draconic, the above becomes very humorous, at least to me).

I know a lot of folks of Central American extraction who are going to be seriously out of sorts over this . . .

Well folks, I've had both the Chitlins and Tripas. Both are pretty gross. On an interesting note, did you know you can fry blood up just like a scrambled egg?? Ah, the southern in me rears its ugly head...

2004-01-13 08:06:32 AM
I've had blood clot soup. It tastes exactly like it sounds. I throw away the intestines, snout, liver, feet, etc. favoring the more savory parts of the animal.

you know, the US is a wealthy nation. we can afford to eat the round and sirloin and even the chuck and shank portions of the cow, and through the extra crap away. we don't need to actually eat the guts.

CHITTERLINGS
Pronunciation: 'chitlunz
Matching Terms: Chitterling
Definition: [n] small intestines of hogs prepared as food
Synonyms: chitlings, chitlins
See Also: organs, variety meat
Definition: \Chit"ter*lings\, n. pl. [Cf. AS. cwi[thorn] womb,
Icel. kvi[eth], Goth. qi[thorn]us, belly, womb, stomach, G.
kutteln chitterlings.] (Cookery)
The smaller intestines of swine, etc., fried for food.

Chitterlings/Chitlins as most people know them today are the lower intestines of hogs. Yummy. Hog Maws are what most people consider the hog's stomach. Tripe/Tripas is most commonly known to be from the lining of the stomach of a cow.

No matter which one, WHY THE FARK WOULD YOU EAT THAT SHIAT? There are plenty of other parts of both animals that are presumably tastier and less disgusting. Can someone explain the delight in eating a pig's poopshoot?

2004-01-13 08:33:18 AM
Blood clot soup?

Oh my God.

2004-01-13 08:33:50 AM
I used to think Chitlins = porridgee = oatmeal. I was wrong. Very very wrong.

2004-01-13 08:34:22 AM
I thought hog maws were the jowls. Oops.

Having had tripas (in my insurance agent days, I had a LOT of Salvadoran clients), I can honestly say that I'm glad I didn't know what it was before I ate it, because I would have missed out on something tasty. I don't go out of my way to find it, but if we happen to visit the Salvadoran place here in Fredericksburg for supper, I'll have some.

Can I just have a taco, please?

Sometime I'm gonna have to bring you dudes up to central Pennsylvania for some Ponhaus. [shudders uncontrollably]. Mexico doesn't have a monopoly on bizzarre organ meats by a damn sight. Head on up to Lancaster and ask for some sweetbreads sometime and see whacha get.

That being said, my family is Scandenavian, and will happily eat lutefisk. Different strokes, eh?

2004-01-13 08:47:58 AM
Stevoh, I know of a Tacqueria that serves eye tacos. Also tongue tacos.

There are certain things that just shouldn't be eaten unless your starving. I don't care how "tasty" they are. Intestines, eyes, liver, kidney, brains, tongue - just say no. Ew.

2004-01-13 08:49:13 AM
"Sometime I'm gonna have to bring you dudes up to central Pennsylvania for some Ponhaus."

I used to eat scrapple whenever we went through Pennsylvania. Until I found out what went into scrapple. Now I won't touch the stuff.

Thats the large intestine not the small intestine.

Small intestines are what sausage skins are made from FYI

OK, so I'm pretty sure the housekeepers at work will now have to come by their tripas on the black market.

© Won't someone think of the small chillin's that are gonna have to smuggle that stuff across NAFTA lines, avoiding gunfire from a potentially deadly crossfire between the Border Patrol and some unsavory drug dealers?

2004-01-13 08:59:22 AM
I'm really glad the USDA is here to tell me what's safe. I never could of done it on my own. Idiots.

In Pakistan they have this stuff called 'Brain Masala'. Basically grounded cow's brains, dried, mixed with spices. I shudder at the thought.

When I was younger, I remember eating liver a couple of times, and liking it. Now when I think about it, I am absolutely disgusted.
