It was first falsely reported to be 1966

I think what this really illustrates is one of the biggest problems we, as a society, face.  Sixes look too much like nines.   I move that from here on out we should change 'nines' to 'freedoms' and make them more flag shaped.  It will just be easier for everybody and we wouldn't have to deal with articles and threads like these.

996?  That teacher is old!

//Almost as old as my 3th grade teacher
///Cranky old biatch.

Did you know that they are called "Arabic Numbers"?

Those damn muslins have done too much to our culture. Let us cast off these "numbers" and return to what they were doing in year XXIV

You have to understand that 1996 was a crazy time what with your Jamiroquai and your eBay and your English Patient. We didn't know what was going on.

That teacher has yet to be charged so police have not released his name or any other identifying information.

How rational, yet unnormal.

For one brief shining moment there was finally an answer for all of those who ever asked "where were all the horny teachers like this when I was at school?"

/And now it's gone
//I know, welcome to Fark

"A middle school teacher, accused of having a sexual relationship with a prior student, was arrested and taken into police custody  " - TFA

"That teacher has yet to be charged  " - TFA

"Charges are expected to be filed on Wednesday. " - TFA

I don't understand, they couldn't wait to arrest the teacher until say...they were going to file charges?

Wait, it's the original flavor teacher / student sex thing with a male teacher?

Ugh, nevermind. I would like to withdraw my previous statement. There have been that kind around since forever.

/I know, the other kind has been around too just not reported blah blah blah

//Damn I'm cranky early in the morning

When that happened in 1966 the teachers gave each other high fives.

But in 1966 it was still cool. Or whatever the language was at the time.

What's that you say? A teacher had sex with a student 8,000 years ago?

Then they'll be confused with Freedom fries.  And that'll be confusing when we're trying to count to potato!

Now, if it had happened in 76, that would have gotten my spirit up. Because I was a student in 76 and we didn't have any teachers walking around yanking our johnsons and wanting a boiler room bang bang, dag nabbit. No. We were too busy winding down from the Vietnam War and recovering from recessions and embargoes. Oh, we didn't have time for such chicanery in 1976. It was a bicentennial year. You just did have stuff like that happen during a bicentennial year.

reillan: So, no statute of limitations, then?

I'm curious if the statute of limitations still applies, even for 1996. That's 16 years.

The premature arrest creates a presumption the accused will find difficult to combat. Makes prosecution easier...

The police have the authority to arrest anyone when there is probable cause to believe that person has committed a crime.  From there, and within a short period of time, the local prosecutor will file a formal charge after reviewing the arrest report.  Sometimes, before anyone is ever arrested for a crime, prosecutors will work up the formal charge and obtain an arrest warrant based on that.  Yet other times, a grand jury will issue an indictment from which an arrest warrant will come.

Meh. Personally, if a 6 turned out to be 9, I don't mind, I don't mind...

In 1966 it usually ended with a shotgun marriage once a baby came along. Newspapers rarely considered it a scandal unless some reporter was on a Comstock-style crusade against someone, or immorality in general.

As many problems as 24-hour news cycles cause, they do bring to light scandals and abusers that were always swept under the rug in kinder, gentler times.
