BigNumber12: It's not news, it's sfist./yes, I know lightning is rare in the Bay Area
IRQ12: Um why are they still playing ball in an open stadium with visible lightning in the area?
Devolving_Spud: Is God smiting San Francisco, or is He putting on a FABULOUS light show?Religious interpretation: How does it work?
HotIgneous Intruder: When the lights, go out, in the citay...
Nothing To See Here: IRQ12: Um why are they still playing ball in an open stadium with visible lightning in the area? Was at the game last night ( Go BoSox ), and the lightning was over the ocean, not near the Park.
IRQ12: Hmm I thought conventional wisdom is that if you can see it you are in danger (yes I know in Kansas you can see it from forever away).Ohh well I guess if it was a threat they would have done something. It just seems weird considering the amount of time it would take to empty the stadium.
IoSaturnalia: In other news, the Louis Vuitton cup finals have been postponed because the loud noises from the thunderstorm have irreparably damaged the AC72s.
ReapTheChaos: Are thunder storms rare in San Francisco or something? That's a normal occurrence when it rains here in Texas.
Third_Uncle_Eno: whoa, whoa, whoa, it hasn't rained there in FOUR MONTHS ?!?!?!?!!?!holy shiat ! if it didn't rain in four months up in here Canadian Prairies, e'rebody would have a sh*tfit.
Poundit Hardus: Last year - Not a shopI thought the end was nigh
Radioactive Ass: The rule in San Francisco is always layer your clothes because you can travel a mile and have the weather go from sweatshirt to tee shirt just like that.
Zizzowop: What made this freak storm here last night (live in Santa Clara) was we heard this loud clap of thunder, then like 10 seconds after, it just started pouring rain. The only other time I have seen that was when I was visiting relatives in Wisconsin in the summer. There was some lightning earlier in the night, but didn't really hear any thunder. It's rare, even rarer in August. We do get some electrical storms about once or twice a year, but that's about it. Kind of sucks because I love lightning. I'm typically never disappointed when I visit friends in Denver though, and I can even remember one time that my flight leaving was delayed about two hours because it was hitting the runway and they wouldn't let any ground crews out to clean the plane until it stopped. Must have sucked for the people in the plane waiting to get off.
