ronin is awesome. frankenheimer used righthand-drive vehicles with dummy steering wheels for the actors. that meant that they were going at-speed for the interior shots. as they call it, "NAR" (no acting required).

I loved that scene in one of the fast and furious movies in brazil where they just murder a bunch of civilians in a bank, and a ton of innocent cops are killed or wounded. That reminded me what great protagonists they were.

I like the race to the opera scene in Foul Play. Far out.

I heard "Drive" had a pretty good chase scene, but I haven't seen the movie yet. Worthwhile?

I remember seeing that movie. I remember liking that movie. But I can't seem to remember a single damn thing about it. Hope that helps!

Arnold's most recent movie "The Last Stand" is basically a 90 minute car chase as the movie's antagonist spends 95% of his screen time behind the wheel of a modified ZR1 trying to run to the border.

Thank you Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry does not get the credit it deserves.

No cars involved but this is my favorite chase scene.  It is completely insane.

I would have thrown the original The Italian Job in there.

The chase scene in The Dead Pool was pretty cool. An explosive RC Corvette chasing Harry Callahan (who is in a full-size car) through the hilly San Francisco streets.

I always liked the chase scene from Peter Hyams' Busting--excellent music (Billy Goldenberg with a (electric) Miles Davis vibe) and an ambulance to boot.  There's another one on foot through LA's Grand Central market that's the bee's knees as well.

If we're doing foot chases this one from "The Secret in Their Eyes" is pretty spectacular.

chalk up another for the original Italian Job

The second Matrix had a great chase scene.  It was probably the only good thing in the movie.

I feel T2 should get honorable mention, and whatever Transporter movie had the bike chase scene - that was pretty original.  And just for shiats and giggles - Death Proof.

And no love for The Driver.  That movie had some great chase scenes.  The end of Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry is great too.

it breaks my heart how few people i've met know The Driver. the underground parking lot / driving interview scene alone is steak covered steak.

Not the best, but still fun:
Diamonds are Forever car on two wheels scene
Transporter opening bank robbery escape scene

Not to be confused with Drive, which the critics were all over.  I have yet to meet a single real person who liked it, and I'm including at least 5 flim buffs from work who couldn't stand it.  We had a work happy hour and someone mentioned they hated Drive, and in under 20 minutes every single person at the bar had voted their displeasure with the film.

You could probably use that movie to unite the Jews and Palestinians.

No love for The Chase?  Kristy Swanson humping Charlie Sheen on the San Diego freeway doesn't count?

Best part of that movie is after the credits. Charlie recites Sgt. Kilgore's "napalm" speech from Apocalypse Now. In fill clown makeup.

No love for the "sexy" car chase scenes in Crash?

You need to get out to the movies more often if you think those are the top five from any movie. That #1 would have put me to sleep had I watched it any longer.

Let me know when you figure out what's wrong with the freeway chase in To Live and Die in L.A. 4 out of 5 never really notice, but once you do it annoys you forever.

Also the original "Longest Yard".

The 1970's were the best for chases.

There is that one car chase scene that I am partial to. The Bank Dick.W.C. Fields is chased and he passes the bar he chills at.And sez ' hey there's The Black Pussy'I think he referenced it like 2 or 3 times.I always duck when he sez it.

/He knew what he was saying

I thought that the chase in Deathproof with Zoe Bell on the hood of the car was outstanding.  Tarantino's homage was spot-on.

The protagonists are actually going the right way on the freeway.  The traffic coming at them is going the wrong way.

And you'd be correct. It's also a far better movie in general. It's one of about five or six in general that I'll stop whatever what I'm doing if it's on.
