On The Beach is a post-apocolyptic written by Nevil Shute.

If you watch the film version you will be so sick of Waltzing Matilda by the end of it you will be praying for the apocalypse.

Google translate: "Landing craft frightened tourists on the beach near Kaliningrad"

last sentence: "The media reported that the landfill "Khmelevka", where usually train units Baltic Fleet is not Mechnikovo, and a few kilometers further north"

In other words the Russian Navy got their beaches confused.

Someone needs to email that website and let them know that, unlike print media, it doesn't cost extra to use colour on the internet.

It's 2013.  The Cold War is over, the Soviet Union has fallen, and Russia STILL doesn't have color web sites.

They also say that the beach they were on was owned by the government and they had people on the beach cordoning off the landing zone. That's why everyone was so calm and just watching.

The U.S. Navy has them too.  Google: landing craft, air cushion (LCAC)

Yeah, but the Russians keep experimenting with different technologies and designs - they don't just use theirs for amphibious landing operations.

Go check out the Lun-class Ekranoplan on Wikipedia and YouTube - it's a perennial here on Fark
