FTA:  So which is the smart party, here? Is it the atheists, who live short, selfish, stunted little lives - often childless - before they approach hopeless death in despair, and their worthless corpses are chucked in a trench (or, if they are wrong, they go to Hell)? Or is it the believers, who live longer, happier, healthier, more generous lives, and who have more kids, and who go to their quietus with ritual dignity, expecting to be greeted by a smiling and benevolent God?

wow, what an asshole. or is this a joke - some attempt at satire, perhaps?

And let's not forget that religious people are nicer.

Yes, look at these nice religious folks saving the soul of this poor sinner.

Just my luck. The sane ones get 72 virgins. All I'm gonna get is a bunch of demon sluts. Woe is me.

Hey. I'm just asking questions. Are religious people who use their religion to justify being an asshole mentally ill?

I was deeply suspicious that the author was pulling facts out of his ass about the panacea effects of religion. Then I saw his only hard cite is to a Heritage Foundation article, and now I'm sure of it.

Haha, amazing.

"Surveys show atheists are more intelligent... maybe they are, but let's ignore all that and talk about intangible metrics that i'm making up based on my gut feelings. Guess what? I win when we use those metrics, so go home and cry yourselves to sleep, loser atheist whiner babies".

Atheist being more intelligent than people of faith is a little bit like winning gold at the Special Olympics.

From the article linked talking about humans being hard-wired for belief:
He said that the latest study suggested the brain was inherently sensitive to believing in almost anything if there were grounds for doing so, but when there was a mystery about something, the same neural machinery was co-opted in the formulation of religious belief.

"When we have incomplete knowledge of the world around us, it offers us the opportunities to believe in God. When we don't have a scientific explanation for something, we tend to rely on supernatural explanations," said Professor Grafman, who believes in God.

That's nice since it essentially confirms what Neil deGrasse Tyson has to say on the subject:
"Does it mean, if you don't understand something, and the community of physicists don't understand it, that means God did it? Is that how you want to play this game? ... If that's how you want to invoke your evidence for God, then God is an ever-receding pocket of scientific ignorance that's getting smaller and smaller and smaller as time moves on - so just be ready for that to happen, if that's how you want to come at the problem."

Certainly not all atheist.  But the internet Dawkinites do tend to be loud mouths that have formed an opinion based on the behavior of Christian hate-mongers, absorbed it as fact, and spit it back out as vitriol.

Hello, Strawman deli?

Yeah, I'd like to order an extra-large "smug douchebag", with extra smug, a side order of "holier than thou", and a large "I don't actually know what I'm talking about" for pickup.  What?  Oh, I'm doing an anti-atheist rant.

I'm not sure I'm getting his point here.

Atheists are mean spirited, mentally deficient poopyheads who have shriveled souls and die sad and alone, therefore God exists? Is that what we're supposed to take away here?

2013-08-20 11:34:23 AM
on the contrary; i would say that basing your entire existence around a mythological being is a form of derangement.

I'm mentally ill, but it has nothing to do with my lack of belief in a deity.

Heh.. I made up "Dawkinites" (at least I've not seen anyone else use it).

I get a little pissy when I see people mocking Christians because they have faith in something, or comparing all Christians to asshats like the Westboro f*cktards.  The internet atheists (the Dawkinites) love to claim that they are only spewing their hate and virtriol because that's what the Christians do, but you know what?  I've never seen an antagonistic Christian on Fark...

Just because you guys set up strawmen every time a Christian tries to defend his/her faith doesn't mean they are antagonistic.

1) That doesn't seem to be a person, but a series of links.  I am asking you to show me a person who is a "Dawkinsite," not a website where I might, if I'm willing to read all of the links, eventually find someone who fits your description.  "They're out there somewhere" is not a good enough answer.

2) You just gave yourself away.
